PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT AGAINST ISLAM

You'd better wake up. They are teaching YOUR kid "Islamic studies" All over the USA.

Nope. I pay real money to send my kid to a real school, not a government indoctrination center, and I've taught her as much of the real history and beliefs of islam as I think she can understand given her age.

Mormons aren't Christians as far as I'm concerned. They read the book of Moroni, not the king James version. They have their own version which is blasphemous because it abrogates the word.

That's your opinion and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with it, but I also think it's somewhat irrelevant. Imagine you got a job in Utah, (maybe it's your dream job or maybe you're just desperate for work), and you had to send your children the public schools there. I don't you'd be happy if your kids came home and told you about the stories they'd heard from the Book of Mormon. But, in Utah, Mormons and the Book of Mormon are probably more mainstream than evangelicals are in rest of the US. I still wouldn't want my kid indoctrinated into the Mormon faith just because she attended public school in Utah.

At one time, there was no problem teaching the bible in school, because schools reflected the wishes of the communities they were in. If they wanted catholic teachings, they lived in a catholic community. Mormons lived in Utah.

Everyone in America ought to know the fundamental stories and precepts of the bible. It's part of our western heritage and you're not really culturally literate if you are not familiar with them, but there's a difference between teaching them about the beliefs, history and customs of a religion and indoctrinating students into a particular faith. The one is good for all people while the other is only good if you happen to be a believer. Now if your kids go to a private school, then religious instruction is fine, but in a public school there are kids of all faiths and they don't necessarily have any choice in the matter of what school they attend.

Ideally, I'd like to see the public school system replaced with a voucher system. I hate the idea that I have to pay several thousand dollars in property and sales taxes each year for public schools and then have to try to scrape up several thousand more in tuition because the public schools are so bad. For the price of the public schools in my area, (about $12,000/yr and all the high schools in my district are considered "dropout factories"), I could send my daughter to an elite prep school.

While this Amendment directly addresses islam, I believe we do need an Amendment or law that clearly states what is considered a valid religion in general.

No we don't. That's nothing more than an invitation for government abuse, just like the kind that our forefathers ran away from.

We are already suffering from the abuse by many of the so-called religious. A valid religion would not teach hate and intolerance and would not consistently isolate members from relatives who are not members. This, to me, is the basics for determining a valid religion. Then they’re allowed to use these perverted kingdoms they create as a tax shelters.
