Would you please put me on your Catholic Ping List.

It was awesome to watch. EWTN is a real gift for their coverage.

Whats the story with Kelly Clarkson and the Ave Maria?

EWTN had the back of her head asits shot, so it was hard to confirm it was her. And FOX seemed to purposely avoid showing Clarkson and actually had their own guitarist singing a hymn DURING Clarkson’s singing!

How was Clarkson chosen? I she Catholic? I heard she insisted on singing for the pope? Why? She did a wonderful job. And she faced the pope the whole time. And when she approached him afterward, she was reluctant to get close to him and seemed to avoid his hands - sort of like she was timid and did not want to be impolite by not kissing his ring. Or I may just have imagined the whole thing. It was just weird.

She sounded lovely and seemed dressed very appropriately.

Anyone have the scoop?

I believe the most complete coverage has been Fox. I was surprised, but very pleased with their coverage.

Now that's most interesting. I kept flipping back and forth between EWTN and FOX. During the Ave Maria, I was watching only EWTN. Indeed, she did have her back to the audience. Earlier in the afternoon, Arroyo's cameraman showed 'KellyClarkson' on stage, hair down, dressed in casual attire. During the Ave Maria, she had her hair in a bun at the back of her head and was wearing a dress that covered all the essential parts. The Holy Father politely applauded but his expression was nonplused (sp?). She certainly did a beautiful job with this hymn - in both English and Latin, though the Latin was a tad hesitant. Since I don't follow American Idol, I have no way of determining if that voice belonged to Kelly or someone else. Arroyo did mention that she specifically requested to sing it for the pope.

Thank you for posting the speech that Pope Benedict made to the young people. It will be a let down for me when he leaves the US tomorrow as I have followed much of his visit and am captivated by his speeches and his very presence. His words HAVE COURAGE which puncuated this speech were the loudest I have heard him speak thus far. I thought Kelly Clarkson sang the Ave Maria beautifully and had no idea who she was until it was explained she was a winner from American Idol. I am sure the crowd appreciated and benefited from one of their own generation being public about their religious feelings. I know the Pope has given not only the younger people much to contemplate, but those of any age as well.

A springtime renewal of the Church.

What a blessing to have this holy man join us for the past few days! No need to be diconsolate once he is gone. Here is the library of ALL his writings - homiletics, encyclicals, speeches, etc. Immerse yourself in these deep waters anytime you feel the need to take a dip :-)

Benedict XVI

He was electrifying! Did you see the faces of the seminarians as they soaked this up? They were totally radiant! This was the longest speech he delivered on this trip! And, IMHO, the best.

I know the Pope has given not only the younger people much to contemplate, but those of any age as well.

EWTN will conserve everything he spoke throughout his visit to the US. You can go to their web site whenever you need a 'fix' ;-)

I agree! IMHO, this was his best speech of all. So many seeds planted today. Did you see the faces of the seminarians when the Holy Father shouted - Have Courage! - they lit up like Christmas trees. One of the seminarians said this was the pinnacle of his formation - he is being ordained a priest in 3 weeks. God bless him and all the others who have chosen to serve our Lord through the priesthood.

I was touched by the seminarian of 3 years of study who wrote the article about how in a previous job he was going to start on 9/11 and how his near brush with death made him realized that God was calling him to the priesthood.

EWTN has done the best of all the news reporting of the Pope’s visit. Just a thought.
