Haiti fails again and with UN “help” to boot.

No wonder they hop on boats and come to the United States.

OK ... trying to figure some things out ...

"Preval acknowledged the threat in his address, saying Haiti's predicament comes partly from its dependence on imported rice that has weakened national production. He pledged to provide Haitian farmers with more government loans."

Is this how international bankers get control of governments?

Either create havoc in order to 'rescue' a nation ... or take advantage of a situation that already exists?

Perhaps the UN should hold a conference in Haiti on Global Warming. The buffet table left-overs should feed the country for weeks.

I guess we'll end up sending Marines for the fiftieth time, but I believe that we've still got a sizable force already there.

I've been to Haiti, and I swear the government police look like they got the job by killing the previous police and stealing their uniforms. I think that just about every Haitian I met there had bright yellow where the whites of their eyes oughtta be. Nobody looked healthy at all, but they sure were thin. The Dominican Republic must guard their border with Haiti vigorously. The two nations were like night and day.

Those Haitian beaches sure were some of the best I'd ever seen.

“Haiti is particularly affected by food prices, which have risen 40 percent on average globally since mid-2007. With 80 percent of its population struggling to survive on less than US$2 (euro1.27) a day, the rising prices pose a real threat to its fragile democracy.”

is this true (the 40% avg food cost increase), and if so, what is the deal/origin?

this is exactly the sort of stuff that topples governments from within.

So domestic food production has been hurt by imported rice and its price has gone up 40 per cent, yet they get food aid from the UN which is clearly not enough, as well. What is the logic here? How much corruption is there in the food aid? Is the free food actually sold or given to favored groups, perhaps. Haiti is a failed state that can't seem to get out of its own way. Mugabe may soon need a new job; this could be an opportunity. sarc/

international bankers have not triggered unrest in Haiti, there is nothing in Haiti worth having.

Just another example of a corrupt dictatorship using police and food to ensure that the masses will continue to be enslaved. Watch out, it could happen here if we are not careful.

Watch this to be another political football for the black congressional caucus who supported Aristide. Maybe President Obama can send in more troops and be a big war hero in Haiti like Billy Jeff was. ;-)

“Many of the protesters are demanding the resignation of the U.S.-backed president”
This quote feeds the idiots on the left that hate America:
As Rev. Wright would say, “America goes around the world oppressing people for greed, which caused 9/11.................... America’s chickinzzzz have come home to roost.”

Last summer we did a missions program for elementary aged kids at our church with a different speaker each week. One week we had one of our teens talk about her trip to Haiti. Her slides demonstrated quite effectively how Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Tin shacks, no plumbing or electricity, one set of clothes, no shoes, a tape ball and a stick to play with, and like you said, every kid rail thin. But beautiful smiles. Absolutely heartbreaking.

How can a country with Haiti’s natural beauty and natural resources be so totally wrecked beyond repair? It’s mystifying.

Amen! Testify, brother!
I'm glad I read through a thread for once before firing off a comment - you beat me to the punch. I used to know a latin phrase that translated something like 'Curse those who express our great ideas before us!'

Yes. That is one of the ways.

Of course, Haiti has been a basket case for decades. No amount of external help is going to fix that broken nation. They'll hate anyone who tries to help because they know the root failure is theirs.
