I am at work now and would do more research at home tonight, but will be busy the next few nights, otherwise, I wouldn't ask for this favor from true heros and patriots from FReepublic.

Thanks!

Out!

Print this out, highlight the parts about falsly claiming the Navy Cross, and leave it one his desk some night.

If he does not jet the message then that people know he’s lying, he is a real sicko and should be terminated.

HR 3352 IH
109th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 3352

To amend title 18, United States Code, with respect to protections for the Medal of Honor, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

July 19, 2005
Mr. SALAZAR introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

A BILL

To amend title 18, United States Code, with respect to protections for the Medal of Honor, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the `Stolen Valor Act of 2005’.

SEC. 2. FINDINGS.
Congress finds that—

(1) fraudulent claims surrounding receipt of the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished-Service Cross, the Air Force Cross, the Navy Cross, the Purple Heart, or any other medal or decoration awarded by Congress or the armed forces damage the reputation and meaning of these medals;

(2) Federal law enforcement officers are currently limited in their ability to prosecute fraudulent claims of receipt of military medals; and

(3) changes to the current statute are necessary to allow law enforcement personnel to protect the reputation and meaning of these medals.

SEC. 3. MILITARY MEDAL PROTECTIONS.
Section 704 of title 18, United States Code, is amended—

(1) in subsection (a)—

(A) by inserting `purchases, attempts to purchase, solicits for purchase, mails, ships, imports, exports, produces blank certificates of receipt,’ after `wears’; and

(B) by inserting `attempts to sell, advertises for sale, trades, barters or exchanges for anything of value’ after `sells’;

(2) in subsection (b)(1), by inserting `or (b)’ after `subsection (a)’

(3) by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c);

(4) by inserting after subsection (a) the following:

`(b) False Claims About Receipt of Military Medals- Whoever falsely represents himself or herself, verbally or in writing, to have been awarded any decoration or medal authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States, or any of the service medals or badges awarded to the members of such forces, or the ribbon, button, or rosette of any such badge, decoration or medal, or any colorable imitation thereof shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.’; and

(5) by adding at the end the following:

`(d) Other Medals- If a decoration or medal involved in an offense under subsection (a) or (b) is a Distinguished Service Cross awarded under Section 3742 of title 10, an Air Force Cross awarded under section 8742 of section 10, a Navy cross awarded under section 6242 of title 10, a silver star awarded under section 3746, 6244, or 8746 of title 10, or a Purple Heart awarded under section 1129 of title 10, or any replacement or duplicate medal as authorized by statute, in lieu of the punishment provided in that subsection, the offender shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.’.

I pray this man is telling the truth and you buy him a beer but suspect this isn't the case. I believe the Toko-ri story was at least partially fiction.

Personally, as someone with a grandfather (SSG US Army, Purple Heart in WW2) and father (1LT US Army - 1950's) who served proudly, someone lying about their service is a person deserving a beating. As a former Combat Engineer Platoon Sergeant who lost friends while serving our great country, someone who steals their honor in any way deserves to be publically flogged.

Those who commit these "stolen honor" type crimes are vermin and should be treated as such. These people piss me off!

DD 214. If he doesn’t have this, or doesn’t know what it is, he’s full of shite. Nothing burns my ass more that this crap. I’m an Army major, UH-60 pilot. I have one 15-month Iraqi Freedom tour under my belt. I have run into several “soldiers” falsley claiming to have been to Iraq.

About 10 years ago and old girlfriend of mine had a sister who met a guy she quickly fell for. He claimed to be a Navy SEAL. I met him at a family party and instantly smelled a fraud. I called him out in front of dozens of people for being a scumbag liar. I only had to ask him a few simple questions to realize he was full of crap. The sister never forgave me. Tough. The guy was an ass.

Maybe the guy just watched too many old John Wayne movies. You know, sitting in a darkened living room with the 23 inch black and white, lips silently mouthing every word of the on screen dialog...It seems soooooo real!

Very good suggestions already here but I will add. I actually knew a guy who flew on those mission(s). He died about 4 years ago. The “Bridges at Toko-RI” is a story put together by Minchner as noted in other posts. The interesting thing is that the real story is more compelling. That said there is no way in hell ANY branch of the US Military is going to put a 14 year old behind the controls of a fighter - especially a Navy or Marine one. I would call Bullshizzle on that alone.

I personally know a guy who enlisted at 15 in WWII.
He was a waist gunner on a B-17.

I’ve known him since the late 1970’s, so no question about validity.

We're gonna have to quit getting loaded and telling people the story of how we pistol-whipped and b!tch slapped Ho Chi Min back in ‘67. I was always a little afraid that somebody might figure out we were only 14 years old back then. But boy did we get the free drinks!

Well, maybe we could tell the story just ONE more time. This time you get to be the one who slapped Uncle Ho around and I'll be the guy who shot the pistols out of his guards’ hands.

Just as long as we get the story straight before we start getting all the free beers.
