Thank you for the ping to such a great story! Only a God like ours could create such a best friend!

The article said that 7 puppies were also brought to the states, does anyone know if this was made possible by family members raising the money or a local organization who helped?

This and all other MSM stories about this fail to emphasize that this OFFICER was acting in clear and knowing defiance of standing orders: US military members are forbidden from keeping/feeding any pets in Iraq. The orders are there for very good reason: stray animals in a war zone are a wonderful source of rabies (incurable and fatal if you are bitten and do not seek prompt treatment) and other diseases.

I can understand an 18-year-old Private ignoring the order because he feels a “special bond” or “knows better than some general”, but an officer (a Major!) should know better.

The follow-on story should be about the Major’s court martial and discharge from the Corps for disobeying a general order and thus needlessly endangering himself and those around him while in a combat zone.

Thank you for sharing your photo, wonderful.

I owned a Snoopy dog, that could have posed for your photo, for several years.

A friend, liked to visit the Humane Society and knowing her gift of gab, she managed to save many dogs from death, they “let her take them out the back door, on death day, alive...”

That meant Bonnie was going to show up, with a new dog, that
“you must help me take care of, I saved him today”...

Snoopy was our dog, until his death, years later........to which he went, convinced the local School Bus, had stolen the foster kids that we had when he came and who had been able to return home.............But Snoopy never gave up hope when he heard the bus.

I can still see him almost in tears, when I picked up the car keys and said “No, not this time Snoopy”.

I am sure he would have prayed, if asked to do so.

You know Snoopy was a happy dog, happy 'cause he was with you, even if he missed his foster kids.

That's not my dog btw -- that's a cute little guy and his pup that's been circulating on the Internet, with the caption, "Thank you, Lord, for sending me to Timmy's house instead of to Michael Vick!"

These are my babies:

My big dog - Shelley the Wonder Dog

My little dog - Ruby the Egregious.

Both happy Labs, and busy as the day is long.

Ruby looks kinda like Nubs in that picture, but only because her Lab ears are so long, they flop over her head and don't flop back!

Guess you missed this part:

When Dennis' unit, the Border Transition Team, moved camp 70 miles away, Nubs somehow tracked them to their new location two days later. It was against the rules to keep the dog in camp, and friends jumped in to bring Nubs to San Diego.

They didn't break the rules, they had him taken to a safe place (probably with friendly Iraqis) and then brought to SD.

Before he could be transported, he had to be quarantined, vaccinated, and all the rest.

You seem WAY too happy to consign charitable people to outer darkness and a court martial. Glad you're not in charge.

The follow-on story should be about the Major’s court martial and discharge +++++++++++++++ It's still a heartwarming story and I kind of doubt that he didn't go through proper procedures or channels to get that dog home. Qurantine procedures still apply and the cost was his. The dog was a stray as I understand it and the dog found him crossing many miles in the desert. It would appear that an exception has been made in this case and rightfully so for many Americans who agree that bending the rules and making exceptions shows flexibility and compassion, a necessary part of leadership and command. What possible good could come of court martialing and jailing a military man who did his duty, served his time and country over something that affects no one else serving there. I'm sure the dog was tested for rabies or the trip would not be possible. It is also doubtful that a dog infected with rabies could make a 70 mile trip in the desert alone.

Good post. I’m also glad this guy is not in charge.
I won’t go any further describing what entered my mind when I read Air Force’s post as I try to see the best in people even though wicked thoughts sometimes prevail. So, I’ll hold back the response that is REALLY in my mind.

Aren’t we already court martialing enough Marines as it is with out you trying to add one more name to the list because he fed a dog that had been brutally mistreated in Iraq?

I suppose you would have marines shooting every stray the see or at least tossing them off a cliff because they might have rabies?

And the award for having no heart goes to.....

AirForceVeteran.

Anyone in a Hell such as Iraq, who can find something decent doesn’t deserve a ‘Court-Martial’. He deserves a medal. And it isn’t hard to see when an animal is sick, especially with rabies, if you’ve spent anytime around any kind of animal.

(shutting up now, since anything else I say will become a very personal attack.).

Thank you, Snoopy left a lot of good memories.

Your dogs are lovely, they show the care you give them.

They must fill your days with love.

God gives us so much to love and care for, the beauty he shares with us is never ending.

I rejoice for all the now American / Iraqi dogs that have new owners and will be loved here, as I do for every loved pet.

I am a farm woman, so have a working knowledge of pets that wind up in the freezer, but there is no reason for being cruel to pets and from what I have read, they are not nice to dogs in Iraq.

I'm just a suburbanite, but I've worked on farms in the summer.

The necessities of farming don't require cruelty. Even the chicken dinner should meet a quick and merciful end.

And you're right -- the Middle East in general is a bad place for dogs. They're considered 'unclean' and that appears to be justification for outright cruelty.

He’s a Marine fighter pilot! I’m guessing that he never has to worry about having enough attention from the ladies. With the dog he, at least, can be sure he’ll always have a warm welcome when he comes home.

But being all cynical and aloof is really big with the “cool kids” these days. I wouldn’t give this poster any more attention, that is obviously the reason he posted that.
