1.3 million have served in Iraq or Afghanistan. 121 murders over 4 years. Do the math: You’re more likely to be killed by a college student.
Damn straight. Or as a buddy of mine once put it: “Nobody ever came back broken that didn’t go there broken.”
(Sorry to show any skepticism, but anybody can sign up and post anything anonymously; and FR has seen people purporting to be associated with our military who turned out to be frauds.)
Since you say you've spoken with Mr. Lockhart, and know something about his (and your husband's) unit, could you tell us what position Lockhart served?
I mean, what exactly was Lockhart assigned to do? Was he an infantryman on the front lines? Or did he serve in a "support" role?
Welcome to FR, btw.
They were field artillery men. I understand your skepticism. PTSD is real and I have spoken to men who served in Vietnam and they will tell you it took years (some more than 20 years) before they admitted to themselves that they need help or even seek help.
Re "PTSD is real."
Not really.
No one denies that men on the battlefield see terrible things and endure terrible stress. And that those terrible things may haunt them for the rest of their lives. And no one should deny those men any "help" they think they might derive from psychological services.
But the construct of this invented syndrome, PTSD, is that terrible war memories can "make" a decent man into a criminal who will commit unspeakable acts.
This is not true. This is why PTSD/PTSS is a fraud.
