Do you know what really sucks?
Not only do I have to pay almost double for a simple loaf of bread since 2005, now I have to pay double the fuel to drive to get it.
Damn, it's pissing me off

I can’t believe this story. The government has been buying surplus agricultural products for years. They have warehouse filled with butter that they have been buying to support dairy farmers for years.

Thank a dim, a rino and our misguided President. Bush is AWOL when it comes to energy and food. He personally has the bully pulpit and he could also reassure about the economy. He dances the Watusi while America burns!

I am not sure it’s E85 so much as it is just higher oil prices. US agriculture is highly petroleum intensive.

Wouldn't be more accurate to blame the real culprit, the debased US Dollar? If the price of one commodity goes up solely because of a shortage of that commodity, the prices of other commodities aren't affected (or actually goes down). The spike in commodity prices in the US has been across the board.
This bureaucrat is whining because his agency buys US agricultural commodities in Dollars, but in Europe, for instance, the US Dollar has become just another 3rd world currency and purchases of US grain were up at least a third in 2007 over 2006.

...in the winter I buy shelled corn in 50 lb. bags to feed wildlife....over the past 24 months the price has gone from $5.00/bag to $7.50!....this is paying retail of course, it’s probably cheaper straight from the farmer...but still.

WRONG
On top of everthing else, Foreign Aid imperils the dollar, food prices, politics, and engenders the ‘Ugly American’ mindset in the first place! Charity begins at home (ie, the country where the docks are stacked high with bags marked USA that eventually rot in place). A 10-year Moratorium on foreign aid is clearly called for!

Oh panic! The world will be food insecure! The UN better step in and take control of the world food supply so no one starves!
