True indeed, though they have had 90+ years to do it.
Scotland is SO integrated as a subset of the british economy, that I don’t see how a non-british scotland is going to function, though I don’t know demographics which would indicate what sort of tax base Scotland contributes to westminster now, and/or if british government expenses in scotland alone operate at a net loss.
Also, who will get the oil platforms?
To: WoofDog123
BP and Shell will get the platforms. If I were Scotland, I’d hold out for a big slice of revenue.

I wonder how many people realize that 007 is actually holding a puny .177 Walther air pistol in that picture. Yes, but the pellets are coated with Ricin.Maybe, but I'm sure Her Majesty's servants would never admit that. Actually, an air gun dealer claims the Walther LP53 air pistol was used for the 007 promotional portrait because it looked cool (which it does), while a reader asserts that Connery "attended the photo shoot for the film, but he did not have the original gun with him. He was loaned an air pistol belonging to one of the photo shoot people."

Who then would own North Sea Oil?...

BTW, if Scotland declares its independence, they can probably count on the U.S. recognizing it as independence without even asking the British Government what it thinks. Or do Scots need to convert to Islam to receive that privilege?
I believe that if the people of Scotland truly wish to be independent, that they should be independent, and feel the same way about the Basque in Spain and France and the Kurds in Turkey and Iraq. However, the U.S. government can’t immediately recognize a new nation in the face of opposition from so many countries in its continent, including several of our allies.

“England may be the ones getting the better deal in the bargain having the heavily welfare-dependent Scotland cut loose.” I think you’re right.

Follow it up with “Trainspotting.” That’ll be like a good shot of ice water, or battery acid, in the face. =8-0>

England may be the ones getting the better deal in the bargain having the heavily welfare-dependent Scotland cut loose. That's my understanding as well. Similar deal in Canada --- which is why Quebec backed off independence when they realized they would not be able to sponge off the rest of the country anymore.

Now honestly, who would leave the Bahamas for Scotland, no matter how independent it is?

Well, it seems to me that if you go from the Bahamas to Scotland you’re getting closer to Shannon.
