"So, are you just against evangelicals or do you have some other reason to leap frog from Thompson to McCain?"

If you read my earlier post, you would know that I am planning to write in Fred's name. As for my problem with Huckabee's campaign, linking it to a problem with evangelicals is about as sensible as saying that I have a problem with women because I would never vote for Hillary. This site becomes more like DU every day.

He also had the most experience at running the govt. A governor for over a decade. That is something he had over all the candidates, even when Fred was in the race.

I just hope that now that mccain looks like he will be the nominee that he will be influenced by conservatives and be more like Reagan than Teddy Roosevelt. We have a better chance with him than Hussein OsamaObama.

I loathe all the candidates. I wouldn't’t vote for them in the primary and I won’t vote for McInsane in November.

Y’all keep saying you can with without “us”. Do it.

I agree. This pathetic attempt to call liberals Romney, McCain and now Huckabee 'conservative' and the 'rally' round the Republican' garbage we're getting from the GOP old-boy networks is predictable but still, disgusting.

The GOP establishment, including Paul Weyrich, are transparent in their zeal to elect anyone with an 'R' next to their name as president, no matter how liberal the person may be. They insult many of us with the absurd pretense that politicians like John McCain and Mike Huckabee are 'really' conservative because they favor the war in Iraq or voted pro-life.

For years, John McCain has basically said 'screw you' to conservatives. Now, he can try to win without us. If he fails, maybe the Republican 'establishment' in Washington will finally admit that conservatives are a force to be reckoned with and that insulting us and trying to raise the possibility of a Hillary or Obama in the White House as a flag we have to salute by voting for a McCain or Huckafraud as 'loyal' Republicans. Bull.

I'm a Christian first, a conservative second and a Republican, third. When the Republican party offers us a presidential candidate who is nothing but a warmed-over liberal - constantly calling himself a conservative - who thinks religious folks who don't share his views on specific issues are 'corrupting' the party, as he did in 2000, I'm done with it.

You want McCain or Huckabee, Mr. Weyrich? Fine. You can have them. Then try winning without us. It should be easy, with all those 'moderates' these guys are supposed to bring into the party. If that's going to be the Republican party of the future, I'm going Independent. See 'ya.

LOL More scary intimidation tactics. Won’t work ANY MORE.

The lesser of two evils is still evil.

You McInsane lovers need to get some books on the art of persuasion. Calling people names and threatening them aren’t really effective.

This election is all about identity politics, not policy or ideology.

Even conservative standard bearers like Duncan Hunter and Weyrich have fallen prey to the lure of identity politics.

“Mitt is against the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy”

No he’s not. You are doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing - hypocrisy. You are distorting his record.

Did you see where today Tom DeLay said that opposing the prescription drug plan was actually a liberal vote?

I have been writing McCain and his campaign telling him he should come out against federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

He could bill it as a fiscal conservative position — especially since there are other promising avenues now that don’t involve embryos.

He doesn’t have to oppose the research, just increased federal funding. In other words, simply adopt the Bush position.

That would pretty much take care of his biggest “ding” on pro-life issues. He’s also against the HLA, but so was Fred Thompson and that didn’t stop people here from being for him.

Of course, Thompson was for McCain/Feingold, and people forgave him but won’t forgive McCain for it for some reason.

Anyway, I’ve decided that rather than cry myself to sleep at night, or post thousands of anti-McCain articles in the hope that I can destroy the country so everybody knows how upset I am, I’m going to spend the next 9 months urging McCain to join us on the right side of the issues.

It seems more productive than getting Hillary elected and ruining our chance at ending abortion for another 40 years.

Sorry, should have said he was against it, saying he looked forward to the day when they could serve openly in the military, then flip flopped on that too.

Barack Hussein Obama is the new James Earl Carter

... Now THAT is a good idea!

Newt Gingrich was on Fox and gave 2 bits of advice:
1. McCain needs to reach out to conservatives, and
2. McCain needs a real reform agenda.

WELL, put 1+1 together = McCain needs a conservative reform agenda. Without it, he is toast in the fall.

Perhaps conservatives can provide constructive pressure to make this happen.

Maybe here ...
