IMHO, the Clinton machine would try to destroy Obama to set hilldog up for a run in 2012- she will not let him risk putting her off for eight years. I think his winning the nomination would cause a major split in the dems that could make up for the c*** we are in right now.

?? Paul?? If you are going to vote for someone who is mathematically eliminated, might as well vote for Keyes, a real Conservative, instead of David Duke light.

.. to preserve her viability in 2012.

Not going to happen. Like Kerry she gets only one chance. If she comes back four years later -- older, uglier and bitter-er, she will turn voters off even more than she is doing now. Except a handful of states she is losing in landslides across the country, and she seriously expects things to be different in four years ?

Please explain to these tired old Canadian eyes why you think voting for Obama will help? As sorry as I am to say this, your electable candidates are all looking pretty scary. I’m sure a great number of you agree with me.

I am terribly afraid for your country right now. No One stands out as a leader able to take your country forward. Your country is in trouble. Subprime debacle, illegal immigrants taking jobs that Americans Won’t do. Manufacturing going over seas. And on, and on, and on.

John Mcain scares the hell out of me. He seems very unstable. Don’t know much about the Huckster or Paul. But from what I have read they are not prepared to lead a country the size and scope of the US.

So as a Conservative North of the border this is all very scary stuff. I have a feeling that the Repubs will lose. The only question now us how bad and for how long. And how much damage will the Democrats inflict upon your country?

Here I am, Jan — have at me!! :)

Seriously, I think my question sparked an analysis, and a debate, about the devolution of the primary system from an honest exercise to (where we are now) an exercise that is corrupted by gamesmanship.

If the members of a party can’t, by the process, select the person who has the strongest support of the party, then the system is flawed.

And our system isn’t just flawed, it’s corrupted.

And John McCain has gamed the system, so that through his outreach to crossover dems and independents, he’s taken the party away from the registered republicans.

So that’s where we find ourselves.

So — I shouldn’t play games in return, to set up what I think is the weaker or less abhorrent opponent?

I’m making my own way, in a system that’s broken, and playing a short-term card that doesn’t relate directly, but only tactically, to my ultimate vote in November.

Am I naive? Or have I embraced the game?

It was just a joke. I make typos all the time.

I just thought the “anals” of history referring to Obama and Hillary was funny.

I want her defeated now

As I said, losing the NOMINATION does not equal political death. Dude named Reagan comes to mind. The only way to defeat her NOW, is to face her in the Presidential election. Is is the easier candidate to defeat anyways.

Well we’ll just have to agree to disagree. You think she can make a comeback. I do not. Whomever is elected in 2008 will no doubt hold the office for 8 years maybe not...but there is the possibility. She will be too old to make any kind of comeback at that time and...there will be new and challenging faces on both sides of the ailes who want their opportunity to run for the highest office in the land as well and they won’t be kissin’ up to hilllereee. So, we will just have to wait and see how it plays out but ...I’m for Obama leaving her in the dust right now.

There's mispellings, and then there's another level -- malapropisms.

A malapropism is just an example of ‘unconscious wit’, and appreciated here on FR.

You should not do anything to help Obama. Right now he is ahead and the best thing for Republicans is for neither Democratic candidate to have a substantial lead come convention time. We want a narrow gap between them, and an Obama victory in Virginia would widen it.

Have FReepers LOST their minds? NO, THEY HAVEN’T!!!

I can’t believe what I am reading on these threads. You all hate Hillery so much you are willing to help get a very dangerous man nominated? I DO DISLIKE HILLLEREE CLINTIN VERY, VERY MUCH. wHAT MAKES YOU THINK HILLLEREEE IS NOT DANGEROUS???????? SHE IS AS DANGEROUS AS YOU THINK OBAMA IS. I DO NOT AGREE. I THINK SHE IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN ANYONE OUT THERE.

Obama is the “second coming” for the Democrats. He will win in a landslide and he will bring this Country down. AND YOU DON’T THINK HILLLEREEE WONT? READ SOME OF HER STATEMENTS ABOUT TAKING THINGS AWAY FROM US FOR THE COMMON GOOD. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN EXCEPT TO SOCIALISM?????

I THINK YOU NEED TO STUDY HILLLEREE MORE. STUDY HER BACKGROUND WHEN SHE WAS YOUNG AND IN COLLEGE...SEE WHO SHE STUDIED UNDER...SEE WHAT HER AGENDA IS FOR THIS COUNTRY.

If you are a Republican and want to vote anti-McCain, vote Romney or Ron Paul, unless you actually support Huckabee. THAT is the best message you can send. THAT IS THE BEST MESSAGE WE CAN SEND WHILE THE DEMS RUN ALL OVER THE PUBBIES????

Do some research on Obama. YOU DO THE SAME WITH HILLLEREE. He shouldn’t be in the Senate,NEITHER SHOULD HILLEREEE. let alone the White House. SHE WAS THERE ONCE AS A WIFE AND I DON’T WANT HER THERE AS A PRESIDENT. The fact that he is so likable makes him that much more dangerous. AND THE FACT HILLLEREEE IS SO UNLIKEABLE AND DOESN’T GIVE A DAMN MAKES HER EVEN MORE DANGEROUS. OBAMA NEEDS TO DEFEAT HER AND DEFEAT HER NOW!!!

O

You have obviously backed up far enough to see the convergence.

There is only one source of power that explains the present position of the three candidates you mention. It is apparently supernatural and evil.

We need to spend more time in our prayer closits.

LOL!

I do love the way you think, and the fact you sparked a debate, and this has been one of the more civil threads on the primary that I have seen in weeks!

And our system isn’t just flawed, it’s corrupted.

BINGO!

The primary process for the Republicans has been so disappointing, and to think that the least favorite candidate (at least mine) will most likely get the nomination is very discouraging.

So — I shouldn’t play games in return, to set up what I think is the weaker or less abhorrent opponent?

Funny, if Colorado still had a chance to vote, I would vote for Ron Paul or Mitt Romney, since I don't see Huckabee as any better than McCain. I would want to use my vote as a protest vote against McCain, rather than vote for the "weaker" Democrat.

I have only voted for one Democrat in my entire life, and that was when I was a young, idealistic, and a stupid college student and I didn't know any better. You guessed it...Jimmy Carter! I only want to make a stupid decision like that once! LOL

So, if you are looking to vote for a weaker Democrat candidate, MHO is Hillery is MUCH weaker, but on another thread last night, someone else made an OK argument saying Obama is weaker.

I, personally, would NEVER do anything to risk Obama getting into office. I have spent the past few years trying to inform people of the threat of islam to this country, and I truly believe Obama is one step closer to that happening.

There is also a tremendous ground swell for Obama, and the black community thinks of him as a cross between Jesus and Martin Luther King Jr. My two college age children tell me stories about what their peers are saying about Obama...they are FIRED up...

So, I know I am repeating myself, but I feel very passionate about it..

DON'T vote for Obama!

Thanks for the debate, it's been fun! ;o)

From http://corner.nationalreview.com/:

Vote for Obama over Hillary? That is crazy-talk.

Last evening, I, my wife and her parents (each of us ardently anti-Clintonian) sealed a pact to vote for Hillary tomorrow (and to do our best not to lose lunch on the voting machine while so doing). An Obama nomination is a very, very bad thing for conservatives for several reasons:

1. No Republican would beat Obama, whereas a Republican has at least 50/50 odds of beating Hillary.
2. An Obama presidency would be far worse than a Hillary presidency.

Point #2 is very simple: President Hillary would be somewhat constrained by public opinion in pursuing her leftist agenda (she is “attackable”), yet President Obama would not be constrained by public opinion much at all because (a) he is not really “attackable” (enraptured media willing to demonize anyone who criticizes their messiah), and (b) he uses Jedi mind tricks to effectively ensure that no one (including many Republicans) listens to what he says — they only listen to how he says it. (”He’s so inspiring!”)

Hillary is a wolf in wolf’s clothing. Obama is a wolf in lamb’s clothing. Which is more dangerous? Exactly, which is why every Republican in the greater Potomac area should vote for Hillary tomorrow.

Am I crazy for thinking this way? I would love to hear a Corner discussion on (a) which Dem is most beatable, and (b) who would be more disastrous as President — Hillary or Obama? I have been detecting such conservative joy at the sight of Hillary’s sputtering campaign, but I think people are being short-sighted: I can’t stand her, but Hillary is most definitely more conservative than Obama. Shouldn’t we be rooting for her and not against her in the short-run?
