My late brother in-law was diagnosed with it six years ago. After a month of chemo and radiation to shrink the tumor, (it didn’t shrink a bit), he had surgery that removed his entire esophagus and had his stomach refashioned to replace it. His surgeon is the last resort guy in my area. Think of it as a radical digestive bypass.
He survived five years before the cancer came back in is liver. He lasted about three months when it came back. It’s a very aggressive cancer.
He fought all the way. He always had a history of acid reflex. After seeing first hand what he went through, I would advise anybody out there with even mild symptoms to get to the doctor ASAP.
I wouldn’t wish this disease on my worst enemy.
Prayers for the Lantos family.

Yes, he was a liberal Democrat on domestic issues, but he was a lion on human rights, and very consistent, evenhanded, in his approach. RIP.

Lion on human rights?

He was a hardcore gun grabber just like the rest of his party and self defense is the most basic human right of all.

Why should I mourn the passing of a socialist politician whose lifes work was dedicated to stealing my money and crapping on my culture at every oppurtunity?

I look for what's good in people and try not to speak ill of the dead.

To each his own.

Even if you were opposed to Lantos politically, he was a man you could respect.

As for me, politics cannot be separated from the list of things that determine whether or not I respect a man.

Your politics and positions on the issues in real terms defines whether you are an honorable or dishonorable man and whether you are a moral or immoral man.

Judging by Lantos behavior in congress, I have very little respect for him

Did you not like him because he was a proponent of the War on Terror.

What a shame he stayed in Congress so long that he didn’t get to enjoy retirement.

What a shame he stayed in Congress so long that WE didn’t get to enjoy HIS retirement.

Tidbits from Wiki about Lantos and his family:

. . .was reelected 13 times. He was the only Holocaust survivor ever to serve in Congress.
Lantos and his wife Annette have two daughters, Annette and Katrina, and 17 grandchildren. Lantos' wife is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon church). Annette Lantos is a first cousin of the sisters Zsa Zsa, Eva, and Magda Gabor.
Katrina, who married ambassador and former U.S. Representative from New Hampshire Richard Swett, was a candidate for Congress in New Hampshire, running for the House of Representative in 2002 against Charlie Bass and in 2008 for the U.S. Senate against John Sununu.
His daughter Annette is married to Timber Dick, "an independent businessman in Colorado."[6]

Israel has lost a friend.

Congressman Tom Lantos headed the Foreign Affairs Committee which planned to eliminate all pro-life language in the Global AIDS Bill (PEPFAR) and would have made the bill a honey pot for abortion groups such as Planned Parenthood. Groups such as Catholic Charities, which do much of the AIDS work in Africa, would have been shut out of funding in the Lantos version. (Source: Religious Freedom Coalition Newsletter).

God has had the final say.

On review...Lantos sucked. Good riddance.

(As for his wartime experience...one “WTF” can wipe out a thousand “attaboys”, and a professional career as full of “WTF”s as his renders any mount of “attaboy” null and void.)
