I explained it exactly like that to my Mother about two hours ago. Fred kept the conservatives from going heavy on either Mitt or Huck. I just loved the way he kept them all hanging from May 'til late September, they were all fired up by then, and then he limps along like a poorly stunned beef cow until late Jan. He finally comes on like a bull in SC and three days later he drops out. Very nice strategery
Did you see Karl "The Architect" Rove on H&C tonight telling everybody how conservative McCain actually is? He even had an eraser board to show us all the "math" to prove Mitt didn't have a chance.
I support President Bush. When I first joined Free Republic back in 2000 so did most of the members. I am disappointed at what this board has become with the constant trashing of this decent and honorable man.
I am glad he is supporting McCain. Without McCain’s campaigning help, President Bush may not have won re-election and we would be looking at President Kerry.

No, the Establishment has conferred that McCrabby will win. His military leg needs a financial or social conservative base to shore him up, and so far, America has voted for the financial conservative over the socon 2:1.
This signals the GOPs intention to downplay the socon base which has alienated both moderate Republicans and Conservative Democrats (who might break for McCain.)

That was at a time before the almost complete abrogation of the Conservative Contract by W and many, many members of Congress (Including Mr. McCain).
I remember back then too - Being confronted with "Bush-bots" and unrelenting flames for those, including myself, who dared raise any questions about this blind allegiance.
Well I've seen what blind allegiance often gets you - That is plain old disrespect and a taking for granted of support. It also emboldens the recipient to do things they otherwise would never do because there is no apparent risk - The support is always there and there are no consequences.
In short, IMO whatever disrespect W or any of the other GOP leaders are receiving at this point in time has been well earned and these are the logical consequences of their actions and failure to adhere to the contract they entered into with their supporters.

I did the math, too, after Super Tuesday and Mitt wasn’t going to come close, meanwhile spending more money.
