“Rush, Sean etc should scream loud and long and you should listen”...

No one has shown me convincing evidence that Governor Romney is either more conservative or more electable than Governor Huckabee.

I have been abroad for more than a year, and have had not even the first personal conversation about any of the candidates with anyone in the United States. But I got a letter from my 28 year-old daughter who lives and teaches school in Alabama. She was telling about some very, very conservative people around her (I know them persoanlly) that are backing Mike Huckabee. I was very surprised.

These friends are well-studied conservatives; not emotialists, but carefully calculating figures. So, I was even more surprised!

The word is that in discussion, they state that they don’t like Mr. Huckabee’s record on many things, including economics and borders. But they believe that he would fall in line easily with more conservative influences if elected. The conversations, according to my daughter tend to always tilt to personal character and convictions. these are the issues that they believe America needs at the very core, and these very traditional people say that they are willing to risk a Huckabee presidency on these grounds.

The feelings expressed by these people (gun rack and shot gun, .357 cal in the belt, always say “Yes, Mam” to your mother and aunts type of people) are the reason, evidently, for Mr. Huckabees strong showing in southern states.

Actually, the Huckabee/Hunter idea now intrigues me quite a bit.

I was a Hunter supporter, then a Thompson supporter. I would still rather have Duncan Hunter in the White House.
I am, however, a believer in the idea that men who have solid personal character traits are not the dangerous men in these races.

Squealing louder your adoration for John McCain does not address the facts I have presented to you. Try again.

well first you have to show me where the tax in mccain lieberman is. I was not aware that there was a carbon tax in the bill...I thought it was a cap and trade proposal.

I am sorry but it is impossible to take you seriously any longer. Conservatives are people who think, not emote, their politics. You clearly don’t understand that. You have a mindless adoration for your candidate and simply are tuning out ALL factual reality to cling to it.

You have yet to make a serious, rational fact based post. It that fundamental failure to understand Conservatives and Conservatism that explains why your guy gains NO ground here in Freeper poll after poll after poll.

Here in Georgia we fell for the con man too. We just can’t resist a Bible salesman in a cheap suit who promises to rid us of the IRS, even though he has no chance in hell of accomplishing that wondrous feat.

I did not say Romney was a conservative. Romney governed as a liberal, but has taken conservative positions in the nomination process. They only thing genuinely positive about him is, he is reaching out to conservatives.

McCain is hostile to conservatives ( also evangelical conservatives). He also lies like the Clintons.

Huckabee is a pro-life socialist who governed as a liberal, not a conservative. Except for a the pro-life issue, marriage amendment, and tax proposal he has campaigned as a liberal. All of Huckabee's "conservative " ideas require constitutional amendments, (including the fair tax) none of which will pass Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid. His social conservative ideas are unrealistic fantasies.

All Huckabee supporters are doing and have done is succeeded in nominating McCain. You prefer him to Romney?

My point in the previous post is the discussion just became moot. McCain baring something unusual has the nomination. We could have had Hunter, Thompson, etc. Huckabee, who could never win has guaranteed that the either leader of the gang of 14 will be appointing judges or, most likely, Hillary.

Rush, Sean etc. have been warning about this for weeks. The original article that started the thread wants them to shut up. Why? Its too late. Rather some of you should have listened as they have been warning about this result.

I think a test of character will be to see if Huchabee denounces what happened in West Virgina.

so you claim to be a rational person but believe in online polls?
I don’t have any adoration for anyone. I just know what Romney was trying to do and he had to be defeated. He would have led the way towards universal health insurance, new global treaties, strict gun laws and billions of dollars on corporate welfare.

So you reduce the religious bigotry and hate toward Mormon's as vitcimization. Says a lot about you.

Okay, I am abroad, so I am also still waiting to see what actually did happen in West Virginia re the McCain votes. Even with the Internet, I don’t get news flashes as quick as you all do in the home land, and I can’t sit at the computer all day. I just saw something about it in the last coulple of hours.

Did Sen. McCain promise something to Gov. Huckabee to go along with the aledged scheme?

you’re the one who brought up the issue, not me. I have nothing against mormons and I’m not going to be manipulated into some guilt trip.

You think the guy who has done the worst of anyone in state after state except for a mere handful of small primary rural states can win a General Election? The guy with the smallest delegate count should be considered the front runner?

Huckabee has no money, an incredibly weak political organization, has made screwy statement after screwy statement that National Media would use to eat me live in a General Election. You think Mr “The US should apologize to Pakistan because a terrorist assinated Bhutto” has the campaign skills to win a nation wide election?

Just how much have you had to drink today?

Politics is not a sporting event where you pick a team and mindlessly cheer for it no matter how bad it stinks.

Of any of the candidates left. Huckabee is the only one who manages to have all these negatives with no off setting positives. Huckabee has the least money, the least organized campaign, the worst poll numbers, the smallest support from the Conservative media and the smallest number of states or delegates won.

Kid yourself about Huckabee all you want. Don’t try to kid Freepers. We actually know how political campaigns work.

“Huckabee can’t win ...” Actually he can.

Yes, Huckabee has proven he is a contender by winning a solid block in the south. His strength in yesterday's voting shows others who vote for him in future primaries are not alone, by any means.

Stop lecturing us like we're children. Your arrogance is not going to intimidate anyone. I don't care what you think. We have a right to vote for whomever we choose. It's called "liberty."

I'm sick and tired of self-appointed know-it-alls spewing their hatred and vindictiveness on this site like two-year-olds throwing a temper tantrum. Take your toys and go home if you don't like letting grown-ups make up their own minds.

Kurt, I agree with you. And now here’s my cut and paste reply, of which you probably won’t agree but that’s ok, because when we look back at this during the General election and the results, we will look back and see that it was Huckabee who gave the nomination to McCain, and what I say about that is:

The South went in a big way voting of Huckabee - and that is why McCain has pretty much won the nomination at this point. Literally, the Huckabee voters handed the primary to McCain. Thanks a lot to a bunch of Southern Bible thumpers for giving us McCain. This will be my reply to all these questions about how McCain won. It is obvious as the weight Huckabee is starting to gain back on his tummy why McCain won. All I need to do is copy and paste this reply into every posting asking the question about McCain. Look to the South. They voted Huckabee, and thus gave us McCain. I guess some of those good ol’ boys down there figure that “all ‘dem Mor-Moms is sinners”. Gosh, well thank you good ol’ boys, and let’s all salute John McCain on his victory and figure out the excuses on why we “like” McCain - it’s either that or try and convince John McCain to the conservative side. It isn’t impossible, actually, because he cannot win the General without the conservatives. Sure, we are hearing talk about Huckabee being his V.P. running mate - wanna’ wager McCain doesn’t pick Huckabible? Anyway, thanks to all ya’ll in the Dixie swamp for givin’ us McCain by voting for Huckabee, after all, you got to stick to your conscious and all, but I sure don’t want to hear from some of you how you “Don’t Like McCain” because you did it to us, so you better get ready and say “I Salute John McCain” or you will be having the butch sisters appointed by the Dem President coming down there and chasing you for all your guns and all your taxes and all your bibles and even your Jesus.
