plenty of San Franciscans think Berkely is nuts too! The Contra Costa Times, which is the biggest paper serving the East bay, although they do so under various names (San Ramon Times and others), wrote an editorial last week which was very much anti Berkeley, even using the term "Bizerkeley'.
There are a lot more good people in the Bay area then we are given credit for. But it is difficult to find us sometimes!

Sometimes it happens that way where a business can’t be avoided but do the best one can. The reason most boycotts don’t work is because there’s too narrow of a focus.

***Councilwoman Dona Spring said the council should not be cowed by the volume of hate mail and threats.***
Too funny! Only an idiot would love to be hated.

I contacted COSTCO and advised them that since they had a store in Berkeley, I was discontinuing my membership. It is just a pin prick, but if enough of us do so, even that elephant has got to notice.

Great job. I didn’t see Sams on the list so there maybe an alternative.

Perhaps your emails should be directed to the Chamber of Commerce instead? It's a damn shame that such a beautiful place has such ugly people running it.

It appears you want to destroy the Good and the bad. It's really a shame that you want to inflict damage on those who are patriots simply because of their location and a bunch of dumb-ass politicians.
How about telling us your location so we can find something we disagree on where we can start a boycott of all of your local business. Maybe we can take out a few of the bad guys along with perhaps your employer.

There’s no COSTCO in Berkeley. The nearest one is in Richmond/Albany.

I would enjoy starting a rumor that the USMC is quietly buying up real estate in Berkeley, that will eventually be sold to discharged bachelor combat veterans at cut rate prices, on condition that they live there for a minimum of 10 years before selling.

Federal troops are already massing outside the city of Berkley with a clone of General Sherman. After he gets through burning the city down the city council of Berkley and the citizens will howl and the public will agree and be satisfied with the action.

Just making sure that you don’t deprive yourself of
10 gallon cans of corn, Chicken Bakes and $1.49 hotdog with a soda if you don’t have to. :o)

My email to the mayor..
When the San Andreas fault eventually ruptures, and your city is destroyed, will you ban the Marines from entering your city and rescuing your citizens from the rubble?
Just a thought.

Berkeley is 90% smelly has-been hippies and that is completely represented in the city council votes of 8-1 against the Marines. The Good can find plenty of support outside Berkeley but as long as they’re in Berkeley they are unfortunately permanently branded.

Berkeley is 90% smelly has-been hippies Can you provide documentation to back up your statement or are you simply blowing it out your pie-hole?
To: A_Tradition_Continues
Take the 8-1 vote against our Marines and pretend the city council was elected based on philosophical make-up. It’s actually 88.8%. Berkeley has been long taken over by the smelly has-been hippies but unfortunately some companies didn’t understand the hippie culture before they moved to Berkeley.

Let me guess. You're a smelly has been hippie from Berkeley?
To: tobyhill
I support your intentions, but you are barking up the wrong tree. The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce fully supports the troops ( http://www.berkeleychamber.com ) but doesn’t have much of a voice on the city council.
To: Natural Law
That picture is new and I’m sure the Marines appreciate the gesture but the Chamber represents business which in turn is the tax base for Berkeley. The businesses are the target because their presence in Berkeley supports Berkeley and the council. I wrote the Chamber after numerous e-mails to the city council have gone unanswered and like any city the chamber has extensive influence when the proper pressure points are applied.
