Coulda happened, but it still all sounds like a bunch of rumors, probably being kicked around by some bored press-hacks....

Did Tony Stewart Land One To The Face Of Kurt Busch?

Back to 2-wide racin', 12 rows deep.

NASCAR.com is running the AP story that Tony punched him, and stuff isn’t posted on the front page of NASCAR.com unless management signs off on it, so there could be some truth to it.

What a great way to start off the season! ...I'm liking Tony more each seaon.

If this is just the beginning, well, it could be a wild week at Daytona International Speedway.

It seems there could have been some street justice applied following the on-track skirmish between Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch during Friday’s Bud Shootout practice schedule.

In the incident on track Stewart hit Busch, putting him in the wall. Busch then sped through the field and pulled alongside Stewart on the track and hit right side of his car three times before both pulled into the garage.

Both drivers were summoned to the NASCAR trailer after the incident.

What happened during or after that meeting is the big question right now in the media center.

Speed reported that Stewart threw a punch at Busch inside the NASCAR trailer Friday. There’s also rumors spreading that there may have been an additional extracurricular physical exchange later in the evening, away from the garage.

Neither driver mentioned any punches being thrown, or for that matter landed, in separate interviews this morning on Speed.

“We’re going to move forward,” Busch told Speed. “We know we need to help each other out in the future so that doesn’t happen again.”

• Jason Dalrymple works in the fabrication shop at Hendrick Motorsports and also is catch can man on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew after having that job on Kyle Busch’s team last year. His mom, Harriet, insists that Jason continue going on the road despite the fact his father, Steve, is battling cancer. “His dad looks for him on TV every weekend,” Harriet said.

Steve suffered a broken hip on Jan. 14 and his doctors discovered he had bone cancer on top of several other cancers he’s been fighting for two years. “When the news spread at HMS, we began to get visits from crew members, members of the fab shop and so on,” Harriet said. “These special people came and built a ramp, bought an electric wheelchair, and stopped by for moral support. Rick (Hendrick) has called almost every day to check on my husband. When he says his organization is a family, he means it, and it’s true.”

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A meeting in the NASCAR hauler Friday night after an on-track incident between driver Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch ended abruptly when Stewart allegedly struck Busch in the presence of NASCAR officials and left the hauler, four sources with knowledge of the incident told The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com.

The physical altercation was the reason NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter told a gathering of media outside the hauler Saturday evening that another conversation with the two drivers would be held Saturday morning, the sources said.

Stewart was seen exiting the rear side entrance of the NASCAR hauler not long after both drivers had arrived. Busch remained in the hauler and eventually left, once a golf cart was summoned for him, sources said.

When asked Saturday whether NASCAR officials Robin Pemberton, John Darby and Hunter witnessed Stewart strike Busch in their presence in the NASCAR hauler Friday evening, NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston replied, “What transpires in the NASCAR hauler, remains in the hauler.”

Asked if that included acts of violence, Poston replied, “It includes anything.”

A check of local police records showed no charges had been filed against Stewart

This hack's blog doesn't add much, but rearranges things a little bit, and has maybe a better quote from Darby.

Did Stewart throw a punch in NASCAR hauler?

And you thought things were wild Friday night? When the garage opened at 8 a.m. Saturday, it was already abuzz about a possible confrontation between Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch in the NASCAR hauler on Friday night after they were in there to discuss their crash in practice that night.
