NYC has been the target of various terrorist groups for nearly 100 years. As the financial capital of the world, it’s imperative the city be protected. The odds of this kind of security spreading to every nook and cranny of our republic are slim to none.

Yes, of course your opinion matters.

Without doing the history lesson you assigned me, let me guess, the German police went about in uniform, armed? I don’t find that offensive.

Now, if they go about depriving citizens of their civil rights (Kristallnacht, etc. etc.) then I find THAT offensive.

I don’t see where the subway cops are depriving anyone of any rights.

Generally speaking, good people have nothing fear from police officers. I am not intimidated.

Wait until the Hitlary gets to redefine the word "good".

Yes, it is a weird camera angle. As for putting armed officers in subways — good, very good.

It's a view one would get from the ground as your're laying on your belly, hands bound, boot on you're neck, pleading "What did I do, officer?".

Reminds me of Heathrow, 1991. They had troops with semiautomatic weapons in flack jackets patrolling the terminals. Of course, the IRA had motared the place once.

I remember seeing tanks on the tarmacs at Heathrow once. I think it was around 1972 or 73.

Let me put aside Diallo for a moment, because I’m not going to just swallow your version of him ‘running away’ when cops cover for each other all the time. I’d need to know how far he ran, who presented themselves, were they uniformed, etc.
Neighborhood witnesses, the type of people who think that snitchers are worse than murderers confirmed this.

The FACT is, he was unarmed and his status as an illegal does not render summary execution just and is absolutely irrelevant, unless you believe he feared the police due to his status (but why would he in NY, known for not pressing people on that matter ?)
Idiots do dumb things all the time. How many people get into car chases with police over much smaller infractions?
At any rate, Diallo fled the police into a dark hallway. That's not opinion.
He was not executed because the police were not interested in killing him. They were looking for an armed rapist. Diallo was shot in an accident and given the facts and the lies presented by the race hustlers supporting Diallo, I'll trust the police.

Speaking of race hustlers and liars, there is Abner Louima who lied about the number of assaults and who falsely claimed that the cops were yelling "It's Giulliani Time!"
Louima was a victim of police brutality and of Sharpton wannabees who destroyed his credibility. The police bigs seeing the who cluster-f and having an unreliable witness went after as many cops as they could. Those who Truth was not relevent.
Chales Schwarz was not in the bathroom. He was railroaded.

How does Louima even fit into your characterization of me conflating citizens decisions with police actions? I’ll tell you—it doesn’t.
Really? Are you telling me that Miami police decided to deoprt Elian Gonzales? Or was this a decision by politicians, judges and other civilians?

Learn from history or repeat it. The choice is yours. For now.

I’m way to busy to be your personal teacher.

Emergency Services Unit officers are detectives, but not investigators. It’s just a paygrade, like a Specialist-4 or a Tech. Sgt.

Politicians who dress up these people and stand them on street corners are where the real problem is.

In the 70s I traveled extensively to Iran, and the Shah had the same cardboard cutout types standing on the corners, looking, watching, waiting ... machine guns at the ready.

Good AMERICAN cops would not put up with being treated like this. I would resign if it were me being used as a political statement. BTW, what is the “statement”.
