I think politics in generally cultural. We are over identified with small town and southern type conservatives. I think we need to have more of a suburban type conservative and a talented leadership that can unite the two types. I think we will need some new issues and some new approaches and probably have to jettison some old views.

Dobson does not have a flock, which shows you know absolutely nothing about Dobson. And Dobson does not get too clever by half by trying to manipulate an outcome in March 2007; before Fred had even gotten close to getting in the race; through a minefield of undesirables; via an opinion posing as analysis. He was simply telling it like it was. You are accusing Dobson of doing exactly what Limbaugh has been doing since mid December. Flock is literal term. I know plenty about Dobson. Focus on the Family is his stated ministry. I am supportive of his efforts to advance his ministry.
But Dobson didn't need to be prescient on the GOP political race. Fred was in the race, maybe not officially, but he was in. If not, why would Dobson seek out a personal meeting with "non-candidate" Thompson? Fred was gracious enough to meet with Dobson and to speak frankly with him. And in response to this courtesy, Dobson leaked the derogatory email, which caused the press to seek Dobson's opinion on the record.
Dobson is entitled to his opinion, but he committed a wilfull, intentional and unChristian like act in his slagging of Thompson. Any sentient being will acknowledge that Dobson was trying to discourage Fred's official entry into the race and to encourage any other conservative - even the adulterous Gingrich - to enter the race, provided that they would kiss his ring.
No candidate is perfect, but conservatives of all stripes needed to unify behind a candidate who offered the most positives to all factions. I fault Dobson for being a poor Christian in this incident and a horrible political tactician for his part in removing conservatives from the GOP slate.

He said that Fred wasnt a bible thumper, which is true. When I think of a bible thumper, I think of a phony like Huckabee using the bible to pander and trick people or at the very least someone making an issue out of their religion for political gain. Exactly.

"I think Dobsons ill conceived attack on Thompson played a major part in ensuring that no conservative will occupy the White House in 09."It had a part in it, that is for certain, but so did many "establishment" Republicans who didnt like the fact that Fred wouldnt kiss their fat rear. At that point, they decided to fold behind someone who would - Romney.
I agree, but that's what we're stuck with now.

[At best, the GOP could still end up with a George W. Bush-lite nominee like Mitt Romney. He will at least pretend to care about conservative ideals from his Country Club wing of the party.
At worst, the GOP could end up with John McCain. McCain, the perennial thorn in the GOP’s side who was once touted as a possible VP running mate for John Kerry!]
That is the long and the short of it. Somehow, the conservatives have lost control of the rino GOP, now in possession of the liberal northeast country club repuplicans.

Haley Barbour 2012, Because he has experience in Disaster Recovery. He's got my support. How 'bout you and I serve as his campaign co-chairmen?
To: Pietro
Nice analysis but I think you missed an imposrtant mistake, lets call it 32B, the GOP allowed the dhimms to gang-up on Sen. Santorum and defeat him in PA. A Crucial Error that. Hey, I did reference Spector's treachery. In my head, that included Santorum and Pennsylvania politics.

An excellent accounting of how we got here. I am depressed and no longer watching any election coverage. I may or may not mark the box next to the ® this year. I hope we can dig out of this hole. Me too.

Indeed.
Memories are very short aren’t they.

Very good article.I agree that the Ayatollah Dobson is most to blame.
Thanks for your support.

Excellent analysis. Better than the pundits. Thanks, but how do you know I'm not really Fred Barnes or Bill Kristol?

Wow!Standing O for you! That was a great post, well said, and hits the mark.
Thanks.
I honestly think letting it go to the convention is the best route.
Thanks for your kind words. Sadly, a brokered convention is nothing more than wild, happy dream.

I hope you have your flame suit at hand. Yep, and flame-resistant underwear, too.
