Great suggestion. I found a company through pricewatch.com that does that, and the price is right. However, their rating is less than stellar, so I’ll keep looking. I checked out Tiger Direct, but the bare bones system I liked on their site had a note saying the systems were not assembled, so that wouldn’t help me at this time.

Good for you! I find it awfully hard to talk people into that particular device, so it is nice when I find someone who sees the sense of it.
It’s an easier decision when you buy a refurbished unit.

I just thought of a possibility that I haven’t seen mentioned yet—check your IDE cable. Those go bad as well—especially if there is a kink in them.
Good idea. I’ll put it in the list of troubleshooting steps. Still waiting for it to pop up the warning. So far, so good.
