Who came into China and cleaned out all those opium places?
Someone needs to do that here.
It is tragic when people think your kid isn’t doing good because in high school they aren’t using drugs.
I mean that should be a given

The false tact of "who is he?", "he doesn't matter", and "I'm above knowing anyone current" is dismissive and disrespectful.

Especially considering they chose to click on the thread. I hate when people feel it necessary to come on threads like these to say they never come on threads like these.

And the responses are sickening. We don't even know if his death was a suicide or accidental. Who cares if he made "Brokeback Mountain"?! The man is dead, if you can't say something nice, SHUT UP.

I don't even know this place anymore.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks the tone of this place has changed and not for the better.

I'm sorry, I still cry when I watch Brokeback Mountain. Kind of tough to pull off,
making an audience cry about a gay love affair, IMO.

Step away from the Bottle, very slowly.
SICK!, Dead or not.

You expect too much.

What are things like manner and appropriate behavior, when you can post a zinger about a poor, unfortunate person and applaud yourself for being witty and oh, so clever. And even better... your friends will join in... Fiesta!

I would think that people are above such childish behavior. Obviously not.

It does not reflect well on Free Republic. But when someone like Bill O'Reilly calls us on such boorish and unacceptable posts... we can run up a 1,000 post thread calling him all kinds of name. Carnival!

Believe me, I am saddened by this - such a shame. But you can’t help but conclude that his Brokeback Mountain experience escalated his despair!

??? What's wrong with you?

Suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness

Suicide is an act of cowards!

I could be wrong, he could've been just a drug head and overdosed.
Nothing wrong with drug-overdosing. Hmmmrph. /s

Ditto that - not wholly changed, but the balance has tipped, I think.

“God rest his soul. He was a talented 28 year-old with a young daughter. Some people really are tasteless around here.”

Amen.
A beautiful young man.
It’s always sad to see the young and talented throw it away.
A sweet little girl is going to have to grow up without her daddy.

In all seriousness, are you really surprised at some of these responses given the tone of this place as of late?

Uh...NO! It's turned into a zoo alright.

This is the same group of religious zealots who picket our fallen Soldier's funerals. Their hate our Military. They hate most everyone.

From their web site here's another planned demonstration for next week:

"Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels 555 W. Temple St."

" This is a Catholic Whorehouse, a Den of Pedophiles and Child molestors. How could you evil BASTARDS bring your children into that place and pay them money to rape your children?! Have you no shame! You hate your children in your heart, and when the siege comes upon you Catholic whores and whoremongers, idoltaters and adulterers, you will be eating your babies! America is Doomed! God hates the Catholic Whorehouse! Amen."

Unbelievable. These people dare call themselves "Christians"?

God Loved Heath Ledger as much as he loves every single one of us. We are all sinners..gasp! The good news is we are all saved by his amazing grace and forgiveness.

“God Loved Heath Ledger as much as he loves every single one of us.”

At least the Ledger family will most likely have the resources to provide for private security to combat these freaks.

HMPH. Just think.

When all the nasty, hateful hearted FReeepers die, we can all laugh, mock and slime the dead one AND their family they left behind.

"Loved him in “A Knight’s Tale” So sad."

One of my fav movies Knight's Tale.

Sad to hear such a young man with so much promise as an actor die so young.

Prayers to him and his family.

(On a side note my wife could never watch a movie with him in it again after she saw Brokeback Mountain. She loved Knight's Tale but said she could not watch him after that without a severe ick factor. Myself I have never had the desire to watch Brokeback so I never worried about it.)

Thank Goodness for that then, wouldn't want this bunch of moonbats messing up their perfect record at being total A$$holes.

What a tasteless bunch. ;-(

Right now, FX is showing a movie called "The Order" where Ledger plays the role of a Catholic Priest who is a "sin eater".

For those who have never seen him act, tune in.

It made me want to when I saw that flyer when it was posted on a forum I frequent. If I were Ledger's family I would ship the body at the first available opportunity back to Australia so we can have a funeral in peace without a bunch of protesters from this "Christian group" (a phrase I use highly advisedly!).
