I was thinking that too. Gays don’t shake hands 13X more often than the regular population, yet their infection rates are 13X the general population’s rate.

The human organism works a certain way. Using it in a way for which it is not adapted through thousands of years of adaptation to the environment, is a sure way to bring disaster.

Here is some evidence of why:

First, even without the abberant sexual behavior, bath-houses provide the same transmission mechanisms as locker rooms. Second, even normal sexual contact would provide an avenue for transmission (cf. comments by Explodo), and anal sodomy is even more likely to do so, given that it tends to tear tissue, providing minor wounds, which are a common means for staph to enter the body.

My daughter (and a number of her coworkers) got it from handling money at the electronics store where she worked last year. It started with a small infection on her wrist that cleared up on its own and two weeks later she passed it to a mosquito bite on her leg that she was scratching. She then spent a week in the critical care unit at the local hospital on special IV antibiotics, before coming home. She then had a pimple on her back flare up and they gave her the same antibiotics via pill form. It’s now been about 10 months or so since the infection subsided.
Dang that stuff is virulent, fast and causes deep tissue damage.
