What the hell does "culture" have to do with this?
Because in several cultures, men want only boys as offspring. In China they have drowned baby girls for centuries. In Latin America girls often suffer similar fates, sold into sex slavery or prostitution.
That wouldn't have done a thing - they would have told her to file a report and to call when he actually did something.

I agree, I’m a mother, and I love all my children equally, but my husband and I just discussed it, and I’d rather have a girl (limited to one child of course) and he’d prefer a boy. Of course he likes to spend more time with our middle child, who happens to be a girl, so I find that more of a intellectual process decision than what he’d really want. But I think males want another male and females probably want another female. I don’t think it’s a cultural thing so much as a genetic thing? But I have to say that our best friends/neighbors are a doctor and his wife who are from Caracas, and he loves his daughters very much and I can’t say he’s ever thought about sending his daughter into prostitution so maybe the “Latin American” remark in this thread is a little far reaching, seeing that he is from South America.
As a Christian, we are supposed to pray for the salvation of all humanity, but I find myself hoping that Marcos Gomez-Romero is too evil or too stupid to avail himself of God’s greatest Gift to us all.
