Maybe these students were onto something!

FEBRUARY 9, 2007--Delta Sigma Phi’s frosty rendition of the hanging gardens of Babylon took first place in the highly competitive fraternity division of Michigan Tech’s Winter Carnival snow statue contest, sponsored by Blue Key Honor Fraternity.

The huge diorama, “Euphrates Frozen in Time Shows Babylon in Its Prime,” is located in front of the their house, 1421 Woodland Road, by Wadsworth Hall. It reflects this year’s theme, “Ancient Worlds Come to Play in Snowy Drifts of Modern Day.”

The elaborate sculptures included griffins with wings molded of clear ice, a fountain, the river Euphrates, a four-tiered backdrop replete with arches, and yards and yards of ice chains.

Here is a REUTERS/Mahmoud Raouf Mahmoud (IRAQ) image from Yahoo. Hard for even the professionals to capture the snow.

It sure was beautiful. I wonder if it will happen again?

It's still mighty cold outside.

True, but at least you are not in Russia right now. Now that is cold.

It has been snowing heavy in Iran.

Snow and cold in Iran thread.

Check this out. Snow in Southern Argentina in the middle of their SUMMER. Weather has been going crazy down there. Northern Argetina is very hot while snow in south. Similar to how the US has been warmer then normal in southeast but colder then normal in the west. See story on Icecap

Just saw a wonderful documentary about our warriors, “Brothers in Arms.” Show what wonderful heroes are serving this nation.

I'd love to see that. Where is it available?

Of course, I have the honor to work with a lot of these guys. They're great, but I don't let them hear me say that too often. We all joke around with each other so much here. ;-)

Bee-zarre!

I used to visit Argentina quite a bit in my last job. (Buenos Aires and Bahia Blanca.) We had quite a large project down there.

Never saw it snow in their summer....in fact, I never saw it snow in BA in their winter.

Cool pics.

Say, curious question. Do you know the name of the Armed Forces radio operating there on A.M. Is it Armed Forces Iraq? Also wondering if they stream on the internet.

Take care.
