On the one hand, there are plenty of terrific kids in the US to adopt; but on the other, who am I to tell someone that they can’t have a biological child of their own?
Also, confining people to adopting children will mean some people, who can’t afford the often huge fees, may not be able to ever have children at all.
There are real reasons that so many Americans who love children and want to be parents end up going overseas.
I really don’t know how I feel about this.
I misunderstood you. Sorry about that.
In most cases, when a poster talks about “too many people,” he means, “Poor people just need more abortions, sterilization, and contraceptives.”
If they can't afford adoption fees, they can't afford surrogacy fees, either. Did you look at the dollar amounts in this article?
I don't think that is correct. While some adoptions may be less, many are several times the cost of the process in the article.
FTA: Most couples end up paying the clinic less than $10,000 for the entire procedure, including fertilization, the fee to the mother and medical expenses.
On the other hand, look at this:
Agency and private adoptions can range from $5,000 to $40,000 or more depending on a variety of factors including services provided, travel expenses, birthmother expenses, requirements in the state, and other factors. International adoptions can range from $7,000 to $30,000.

The adoption business (and it is a business) can be very expensive, which is a shame. I'm sure there are lots of people who would love to adopt but can't afford several tens of thousands of dollars. Additionally, some people would like their own children and this allows for that.
This makes me uncomfortable, but I don't pretend to know the answers.
The answer, as far as it goes, is that some people will not have children. Life is like that ... many times you don’t have what you want most.
I think one reason the cost of adoption is so high is that potential adoptive parents are “bidding,” as it were against the welfare system.
