Vermont town seeks Bush, Cheney arrests

Windham County, where Brattleboro is located, was Kerry's best county in the state in 2004. He got fully 2/3 of the vote there (66.4%), and Bush only got 31.2%. It was also Bush's worst county in Vermont in 2000, though not Gore's best (because it was Nader's best in the state).

I'm not quite sure why that is. Windham county doesn't have a large student population. It probably also doesn't have a large percentage of ordinary working people, though. Maybe old hippies abound there.

Bush actually carried Essex County, smallest and most rural county -- the core of the "Northeast Kingdom" or the real old Vermont -- twice. He also took neighboring Orleans and Caledonia counties (the rest of the Kingdom) in 2000
