"It will be the year of low expectations," said Garry South, a Democratic consultant who served under former Gov. Gray Davis. "And those probably won't even be met."

The longer Arnold stays in office, the better Gray Davis looks. Who'd have thought it?

I can hardly wait ‘till the day comes we can get the hell out of this swamp. Mississippi looks good in comparison.

Calif needs a man, a leader of proven experience and integrity. Wonder if Nagen of New Orleans is available?

Hey Norm! That number 4 Reply is a total CLASSIC!!!

I love it!!!

"We could be headed for a period of great instability," he said, "which doesn't lend to significant accomplishment."

Bring it ON!!! This would be a great moment in CA history if we could finally bring all these Dem dummies, including the Repellican Governor to their knees on spending and borrowing and squandering the forced monetary extractions from the people of CA!!!

Merry Christmas, Cauleeforneeuns... (to be continued)

Carry_Okie did, many times right here on FR!!! Many of us cheered him on when he said it, too!!!

Unfortunately, there were way too many fearful FReepers who were too sore afraid of Dems Bustamante and Angelides to join us in supporting a real fiscally conservative Republican named Tom McClintock.

So now we sit here in a destitute, debt ridden state on Christmas 2007. Thanks a lot you frightened, flinchin FReepers... Thanks a lot and, well... Merry Christmas to you too!!!

Just curious - CA has had record increases in property values for years and the infamous 1% property tax never stays are 1%, going up year after year - property sales have been through the roof - so, why is it that CA is faced with a budget crunch now?

“It’s time we have an honest conversation with voters about the reality of the state budget.

I hate to tell you this Jean, we have been having a discussion, It’s just that as usual you in Sacramento weren’t listening.

If only we had a part time legislature back again.

Republicans say they don't take pleasure from the prospects of cutting programs...

Then they are RINOs, not Republicans. True Republicans would take great pleasure in shrinking government by 50% or more.

Just like the national race for pres. Too afraid to support a conservative for fear of losing the moderates.

The three headed monster will not be denied. Public employee retiree costs, illegal alien benefits and criminal justice costs, and global warming hysteria will only get worse. Rat policy makers in California Utopia: you have not seen anything yet. You will be nostalgic for the current budget situation in 5 to 10 years.

On the bright side, they did pass SB777 which paves the way for teaching kindergarteners all about the wonderful aspects of engaging in homosexual acts.

"Democrats ran for office to solve problems, and you can't solve problems without money," said Steve Maviglio, Nunez's chief of staff. "It's very frustrating for members knowing they have only six years to get something done and are essentially cut off at the knees. It'll be another summer of discontent if everything lines up the way it looks like it's going to."

This statement encapsulates the difference between a republican and a democrat. A republican knows that central government programs are not the solution. Energizing communities and local ownership of problems, while allowing locals to find local solutions to problems is far more effective and provides for long-lasting change.
