Our friends in Pakistan don't seem to be behaving themselves. We are really behind an 8 ball there, not wanting to let the despot fall to protect the stability of a nuclear armed state - that sells technology and maybe HEU to NK.

Another perfect example of why I NEVER trust what the State Department says or does.

NKor has already attempted at least one nuke device detonation. Of course this enriched material would be a total surprise.

Ya see, the liberal Dims are lulling us into a false sense of security when it comes to North Korea and Iran. This report circulating around that Iran has stopped enriching Uranium and has no interest in an atomic bomb and North Korea’s folly with investigators is a treasonist act by the media, Congress and the progressive liberals against this country.

“However, North Korea claims the tubes were intended for use in the development of a conventional “artillery” weapon, sources told FOX News.”
How does this compare with the suspicious tubes that Iraq was importing before we invaded that were dismissed as being for conventional “artillery” also?

"We know from the Pakistanis that they [the North Koreans] bought these centrifuges. There's no other purpose for a centrifuge of that kind than to produce highly enriched uranium."
Just some nuclear tidbits here.....to produce a weapon, uranium must be enriched to over 90%, which is highly enriched as the article says. However, U-235 only yields about a 60 KT bomb at max, with lots of fallout (uranium weapons are also very heavy). U-238 on the other hand, is easily converted to plutonium. Pu-240 can produce 160+ KT bombs, and are very light weapons.

SK gov is silent on the issue so far.
Maybe Ruskies did not help N. Koreans with scrubbing aluminum tube, or is it technically too challenging for anybody?
The reaction from WH and Foggy Bottom will be really predictable. Ignore it as long as they can. If they can no longer continue it, come out and say that this will put more pressure on N. Koreans to dismantle nuke program for good. I wonder about that. Unless America shows the sign of unequivocally flipping its policy and coming down really hard on N. Korea, N. Korea would just sit on it and let this little storm pass. They figures that Bush admin has more to lose than they by breaking off the so-called "engagement." At least until now. China won’t make a big deal out of it, in all likelihood.

I’m with you. I believe the only reason NK or Iran would ever stop their programs to obtain nuclear material (refining it themselves or purchasing it) would be if they felt they had enough for the warheads they felt needed. As long as they are still in the hunt, and being thwarted, that’s good news. When they no longer are pursuing it, that’s bad news...
To: TigerLikesRooster
People would be very hard put to argue with ANYTHING you have said and observed about this.
That is exactly what Condi, State Department and the Republican White House will do.
Despicable.
