You should probably let the Supreme Court know. Apparently they do not agree with you.

“You should probably let the Supreme Court know. Apparently they do not agree with you.”

Would that be the same supreme court that says it’s all right to kill innocent babies if we find them inconvenient?

Yeah, they have a lot of credibility.

They still have a lot of say in the law of the land. And you agreeing or disagreeing doesn’t change that fact. Students have first amendment rights on school campus. Limited yes, but not completely removed.

We need a word, a term, for a “right” invented by a court or claimed by whackos that is not a legitimate right.

Still, part of me wonders what it will be like for the first generation to go through 12 years of schooling in a completely nuetral, bland, non-offensive environment. What are they going to do when they get their first job and have to deal with customers with green hair? When they have a boss with an NRA sticker in his office?

Well, the Catholic private school I attended would probably strike you as neutral, bland, and inoffensive. Heck, we all dressed the same.

But I can tell you that the alumni I'm aware of have had no trouble making their way through the world.

If the rights guaranteed by the first amendment aren’t rights, what exactly are?

Yes, but if it was anything like the Catholic school I attended, the uniformity and neutrality applied only to outward appearances. Even though we were in uniforms, we were encouraged to profess our faith, defend our beliefs, discuss the beliefs of others, critically examine other cultures and ideologies, etc.

Intellectually speaking it was nothing like the P.C. environment my friends experienced in the public schools.

I don't have that much of a problem with reasonable, fair clothing restrictions in schools. What I'm really against is the increasing trend to stamp out ALL risk, competition, and conflict in schools.

Once again, children are under the control of their parents. They will have those rights when they become adults and citizens.

What do parents have to do with school? The school is a government agency and they have to obey the constitution. And as much as you would like it to not be so, the Supreme Court has ruled that students have first amendment protection. Read the case I linked to, it spells it out very clearly.

“What do parents have to do with school?”

A school properly stands in loco parentis.

“The school is a government agency and they have to obey the constitution.”

Which they fail to do in extending constitutional rights to minor children.

“And as much as you would like it to not be so, the Supreme Court has ruled that students have first amendment protection.”

The Supreme Court ruled wrongly. Their ruling is incorrect as a matter of constitutional law, and it is morally wrong. It therefore deserves neither respect nor obedience.

The ACLU is a disgrace to America and its Consitution. It is nothing but a communist front group who wishes to see this nation destroyed.

The ACLU is beloved by the leftist secular humanists on Free Republic who hate God, worship Darwin and pretend to operate on principles of small government. The same phonies worship the Big Government Public Schools. They do not belong on Free Republic.
