Ask yourself how many people would be lured into the black-market economy to avoid paying a sales tax of 30, 40, 50 or even 60 percent on expensive items?Where does 60% come from? If the NRST went to that level, the fedgov can expect and can deserve black markets. Then again, there are all sorts of Section (S) offshore limited partnership Crummy trusts that rich people can use to escape taxes the rest of us have to pay. So the problem brought by the article's author isn't exactly unique to the NRST.

That was a very unserious take on the fair tax.

Do you really think saying "when the FairTax becomes law, it will be like waving a magic wand releasing us from pain and unfairness" deserves a serious response?
To: Your Nightmare
No. But that is not all that Huck or Hunter or Linder or Tancredo or Boortz has said about it either. He picks an off the cuff unserious remark to base his critique upon.

You have to couple this with Huckabee's plan to eliminate 100% of the country's energy costs within a decade, at which point we'll all have the extra finances to pay a 30% sales tax.
"I think we ought to be out there talking about ways to reduce energy consumption and waste. And we ought to declare that we will be free of energy consumption in this country within a decade, bold as that is." - Mike Huckabee, CBS Evening News

Bookman is the quintessential over-educated moron who dumps on the Fairtax every time his masters at the CFR elitist dominated Cox empire instruct him to do so.
Boortz will probably ignore him as it is no contest to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
Besides, Bookman’s and the AJC’s current readers — all three of them — almost certainly didn’t understand Bookman’s several four syllable words.

Even people trading in underground markets have to participate in the legitimate economy part of the time. Otherwise the black market would be so huge it couldn’t be hidden. We could take all the out-of-work tax revenue workers and retrain them as black market police.

Common sense indicates that if the income tax was replaced with the Fair Tax, and the same amount of revenue was brought in, some people would pay more than they presently pay, perhaps a lot more, and some would pay less, perhaps a lot less. I have seen very little analysis of who would fit into each group.
Any arguments?

Let us go forth and abolish the federal income tax, the estate tax, corporate taxes, capital gains taxes and payroll taxes, as well as the IRS. Let us then replace all those taxes with a 30 percent national sales tax collected on all services and goods, from a new house to chemotherapy treatments to a gallon of milk.
You missed a very important step Jay! Let us then go forth and issue prebates to people to payback taxes to be paid on necessities such as food, shelter and medical care up to the poverty level since The Fair Tax eliminates loopholes and exemptions that give the lobbyists their power under the income tax.
According to Huckabee and other proponents, the FairTax will raise just as much revenue as the current system.
That's right Jay since the embedded taxes that create a tax inclusive rate of approximately 23% will be eliminated as corporate income taxes and associated compliance costs will be abolished. That same dollar amount will become the tax exclusive rate under The Fair Tax as it will be applied as a separate entry on the receipt.
A tax commission convened by the Bush administration found that eliminating just the federal income tax leaving all other federal taxes intact would require a sales tax of at least 34 percent, a finding backed by other economists.
If you bothered to do your research Jay you would have realized the tax commission failed the American people in the two most fundamental tasks:
1. They failed to define true criteria by which reform should be evaluated; and
2. They failed to grade tax reform plans against those criteria.
Instead of the fundamental reforms the panel was charged with developing, they recommended changes that further complicate an already overly complex tax system.
You did not also include the point that approximately 100 economists including from harvard researched the best possible tax alternative plan and The Fair Tax was the result.
Advocates believe that under their system, tax fraud would essentially cease to be a problem and that the new system would almost enforce itself, allowing the IRS to fade away.
Common Jay all it takes is a little common sense to realize it will be pretty tough to evade paying the tax when everyone will be complying when they make a purchase. You also ignore another obvious point that enforcement will also be easier because there are far fewer businesses( who will be collecting the tax) than there are individual tax filers. All those tax filers go away with The Fair tax. Oh and by the way Jay I'll let you in on a little secret. The IRS won't just fade away. It will be abolished as ti will be defunded. It's all in the bill Jay! All you have to do is read the bill!
Jay you should stop with the insults, innuendos and assumptions and instead actually read the bill otherwise it makes it look as though you are starting your own cult. Fair Tax ping!

No argument from me, but I have seen some studies about the tax burden shifts posted online, but haven’t read them.

We could take all the out-of-work tax revenue workers and retrain them as black market police. When the black market police come to your house, you better have those receipts ready.
