Helen Thomas: Keep relgion out of politics So if I say that Helen Thomas is the devil, can we keep her out of politics?

Have you noticed the good number of conservatives siding with Helen on this issue (Noonan, Lowry, etc.)?
I guess they are right to a certain extent ... but an argument can be made that, to the extent that faith needs to be separated from politics, good men should stay out of politics. What truly faithful man puts his country above his God?
To: Kaslin
Impossible. You can keep a separation of powers, but you can’t keep religion out. It’s been tried. Religion informs our understanding of human nature, which in turn determines our decisions in government.

no one has to publicly defend his or her beliefs I know it's retarded to find flaws in the idiot's "logic" - but let me get that straight Helen: Beliefs are important enough to hold and guide one's life, but not necessary to defend? Stupid old turd.
To: SmithL
Let's keep religion out of the presidential campaign, if possible. No, let's not. By "religion in politics", left-wingers usually mean "conservative positions on social issues". This is a call by Helen Thomas to basically eliminate conservative positions on abortion, gay issues, sex education, and a host of other social issues from being allowed for consideration. I resist that call, and in fact think it's time for the GOP to give full due to the social issues and win back the Reagan Democrats. It's just a shame that there are so many so-called "conservatives" on Free Republic whose thinking is identical to Helen Thomas'.

This is most unsettling for me...agreeing with Helen Thomas about even
one topic!
