I have no doubt Tanc would restrict illegals.

And I like the fact that he advocates something close to a “time out” for legal immigration.

That’s what we need right now.

...said his endorsement of Huckabee stemmed from the former governor’s recent statements on the issue, particularly a plan that Huckabee put out last week that would require illegal immigrants country in the country to go to their country of origin before trying to return. The plan also would build a border fence and increase fines on employers who hire illegal immigrants, similar to proposals offered by some of Huckabee’s opponents in the GOP nomination process.

“It was a plan I myself could have written,” said Gilchrist, who noted the Huckabee campaign reviewed the proposal with him before it was released.

Huck's connecting...

And it's extremism like that which has left Tancredo in the cellar when it comes to national polls. He is making the issue of immigration a cultural issue instead of a law and order one, and most voters are repulsed by that.

Good evening.

Seriously, do you believe that the Huckster isn’t talking though his rear in the hope of fooling people? Of course illegal immigration is a Rule of Law issue. Does he honestly view it that way? Would he go beyond his Jimmy Carteresque naivety to do the right thing?

I personally don’t trust him as far as I could throw him, even with all the weight he’s lost. Of course I’m not much for believing that most politicians ever honestly “get it”, especially ones with his history.

Yeah. Jim Gilchrist just put the final nails in his own political coffin. He was handed opportunities to do great good that others can only dream of, and he’s now finished squandering them. It’s very sad.

If one is dubious of most peoples intentions, a “ hard row to hoe” is before them; possibly safer, but much tougher. I just think that even politician can have a true change of course. I'm sure hoping your wrong about Huckabee. Having watched Huckabee on several occasions he indeed is believable to me. I expect that he would do the right thing with the illegal immigrants. Build a fence to start. Has to be done first before any real 2nd step can be taken. Fine and or prosecute the illegals and those who knowingly employ them. Withhold federal money from safe harbor cities. Return them to their home country and provide an accelerated avenue for all immigrant to citizenship, not just the South American. I think we need immigrants, but in a orderly and legal manner.

Good evening.
I didn’t say anything about how I look at most people, I said most politicians. There’s a difference.

I think you are missing the point when it comes to why so many people dislike the Huckster. He talks a good game but his history doesn’t support his words and yes, I do distrust anyone who, “gets it” in the middle of a campaign which they have suddenly pulled ahead in.

I like the phrase “hard row to hoe”. My family were Okie and Arkie dirt farmers who came to California in the early ‘30s and continued to hoe those rows. I did it as summer work a couple of times, as well as picking grapes and plums. I don’t know if there are still any crews of Anglo kids earning money during the summer.

When I was in high school and was being naive or dumb, my grandmother would always tell me that I had a hard row to hoe if I didn’t wake up. I finally did wake up.

>>If the Repubs are gullible enough to nominate the Huckster, we deserve all that follows.<<

Exactly what I was thinking. Either

1) Republicans are really dumb

2) Republicans are too lazy to look at what candidates have said, and see a pro-life position as sufficient to counterbalance a pro-amnesty candidate. That’s how we got GWB.

My guess is #2.

I would have suggested a 3rd possiblility: Huck is really sincere, except that when he says “no amnesty,” in the next sentence he endorses the Hutchison/Pence “return to home country first” amnesty plan.

Bzzzzzzzt! Wrong answer!

1) It is the subversion of our culture and national sovereignty that is at stake b/c of illegal immigration, not "law and order."

2) Look at where moderation has gotten us. Working w/ the 'Rats gave us a big time amnesty in 1986.

It is the "moderates" that have sold us out. Why should we go down that path again?

Proof, please.

NumbersUSA and FAIR were founded by enviroracist population control liberals.

Even the name, NumbersUSA, is blatantly population control-oriented, based on the envirowacko UN population-is-bad philosophy. Sterilization, restrictions on childbearing, you name it. They're using the anti-illegal movement as useful idiots because they share some of the same goals.

In today’s news conference Mr. Gilchrist seemed to try to moderate his group’s profile by describing it as a “multi-ethnic multi-racial law enforcement advocacy group.”

...what kind of PC bullcrap is this?

Huck: "...I’m kind of flattered that people look at America as a place they’d like to be.”

Odd statement. Why is he "flattered", does he think he is king already? (I am grateful that America is a place that people want to come to.)
