RIP, Raleigh "Dusty" Rhoades....
The Mansions of the Lord Click the picture for music
To fallen soldiers let us sing Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing Our broken brothers let us bring To the Mansions of the Lord No more bleeding, no more fight No prayers pleading through the night Just divine embrace, eternal light To the Mansions of the Lord. Where no mothers cry and no children weep We will stand and guard though the angels sleep Through the ages safely keep The Mansions of the Lord. |

Having once been on a Navy C-118 that was hit by lightening, went dark and lost several thousand feet in mere seconds, I can't say it was THE flight of a lifetime, but yes, in 1976, as a member of the US Navy Steel Band, I was privilaged to go aloft in the Angels' two-seat trainer at the Bi-Centenial Expo and while the end result was about the same, at least I was expecting the fighter to shake me up; I was warned and securely strapped in with barf bag in hand. The C-118 incident led to many bruises from bouncing through the crowded cabin in free-fall and much sympathetic, chain-reaction horking without benifit of gravity.

Yuck! :-D
I’ll never forget when a bunch of us REMFs were put into an APC for a trip to some little training beach or other, and the crew told us that if the aroma of diesel fuel or motion sickness caused nausea, we should puke in our helmets. I recall nobody horking, but I can’t believe they thought anyone would choose to upchuck in their own headgear instead of splashing the deck. We musta looked like a particularly gullible bunch!
