“actually he comes across as a rolex eveangelical type”
You come across as a daily kos plant.
They’ve gotten more than a rope or two. Since Nixon we’ve been told to work within the party for change. We just aren’t going for that rope a dope anymore. If social Conservatives won’t give libertarians some of that rope we will no longer vote Republican...simple as that.
Calm down now, if we give you your reefer, will you come back into the fold?
Huckabee trying to push a small government message is like Osama bin Laden trying to preach pacifism.
A tax-and-spender like Huckabee has no chance of winning as a Republican -- people who want that vote for the Democrat.
Do you mean the "primary focus" of your life is on "protecting marriage and banning abortion"? Does your belief that the government can, and should, "protect marriage" take precedence over concepts like freedom? Would you agree to any form of government as long as it banned abortion and gay marriage?
These are serious questions. I get the impression from some posters that they would willingly accept a government that would be anathema to conservatives if that government agreed with them on certain social/religious issues. It's not that this is not a legitimate point of view, it's that I don't believe that it is conservative, social or otherwise. I know several liberals who are anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage. They're fine people. They're still liberals.
I can't stand the stench of tobacco smoke, but that doesn't change the fact that this is wrong (and symptomatic of a Big Brother mindset).
"I'll lay offa da booze, shtartin' t'morrowwww...."
As for the fuel tax, bad roads have to be fixed.
Then other spending needs to be cut. Hucksterbee's tax hikes show that he isn't willing to do that.
I think Huckabee is in the cross-hairs of those in the "libertarian" mentality
Deservedly so, since he is a Big Government man who really ought to join the party of Big Government.
Hopefully not anyone (aka Mitt and Rudy..)!..
No, I don’t want to see a big buauracratic federal government created and most social conservatives are strong constitutional conservatives as well. At the moment, I am fed up enough with our pluralistic culture which is destroying our counting so I personally would probably support more drastic laws regulating speech and entertainment than many republicans and especially Libertarians would. However, at the end of the day I really would prefer a small government I just want to see life and morality protected as well.
But at least with that kind of liberal you have a bridge to build upon (there are an aweful lot of that kind in the south)..!?
You forget (conveniently) that abortion and gay marriage are conservative issues precisely because of the reasons you stated (Constitionalism and Judical appointments): If we didn’t have an activist court these issues would be persona non gratta!... (Not to mention that those on the other side of both are insane), and they are moral issues that transcend politics!!..
Did John Kerry teach you to flip-flop, or did you teach him?
I’m waiting for Benny Hinn or maybe Huckleberry Finn to endorse him.
Lol, thats funny. My comment was that I want less government in general. I then clarified that I personally I would not be opposed to more regulation in the specific area of speach and entertainment. Such as bans on pornography and more restrictive standards for entertainment - all of which used to exist before the 1960’s.
91% marginal tax rates existed before the 1960 — want to bring those back as well? (It would explain your support for a tax-and-spend candidate, I suppose....)
No, I didn't say all it should take is seven years. I said a path might become available, for those who have been in the country paying taxes for seven or more years.
Oh, but the polls show he would beat Hillary...Are you really going to stay home on election day and let Hilldabeast become President? Isn't the Huck the lesser of two evils?
Surely, those that have made those same arguments for Giuliani must make the same one for Huckabee.
