Medved is a CFR goon.

As well as an open borders guy.

“the time when we elected the most qualified for public office, is long gone.”

That doesn’t have to be the case.

Honestly I think Thompson is too much of the same old thing and Hunter isn’t enough of the same old thing.

Well, I know FR’s former member Trixie has an anti-FRed item up on her site’s list today. [They had to dig it up from a blog I never heard of.] There’s a “conservative site” in the bag for Rudy.

“What is going on?”

The media is only supporting “moderates” (liberals) and gun grabbers, every other (R) is marginalized.

Somehow we let the press become a deciding part of the electoral process.

You mean Thompson is too honest, too frank and straightforward? Give me that any day.

As soon as those who think Rudy is tough learn about this (post 61):

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1929882/posts?page=51#51

they will drop Tooty fruity Rudy like a hot potato. Because of the MSM Rudy’s gay pride marches won’t get much publicity, but if he gets the nod and goes against hillary it will be all over everywhere. Rudy will get absolutely obliterated by the beast because of it.

I don't see that a Romney win in Iowa and New Hampshire is necessarily a big problem for Fred Thompson, as long as he makes a respectable showing. There are a lot fewer Republicans who blindly and obediently vote the way they are told like there are Democrats.

Remember how the Democrats blindly swallowed Kerry last cycle because polls showed he could beat Bush? Then, once the campaign started, they found out they were selling a s*** sandwich.

I also don't see a race boiling down to Thompson and Romney as a bad thing. The best part of it would be putting Rudy out of the picture. You'd also be left with probably the two most electable guys in the race and a well-balanced ticket if either could shelve their ego and accept second spot.

Both are too middle of the road for me, but either would probably make a reasonably decent president.

How does that explain Fox News Channel, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh?

It’s obvious some very powerful forces are aligned against (especially) Duncan Hunter, and also Fred Thompson.

I wonder whether Jeb Bush isn’t somehow in play, in some quarters?

That’s all we need.

“In all honesty, when I read Free Republic some times, I feel I am in an alternate reality.”

In all honesty, you are. For example:

“I’m sorry Rush. I have the utmost respect for you, but your explanation that you don’t interfere in primaries just doesn’t make the grade. You’re supposed to be running America.”

That is not reality.

Somehow we let the press become a deciding part of the electoral process.

Indeed "we" have. Only it isn't "we."

The leaders of the Republican Party have done this.

They have literally turned over the decision-making power over who is even part of the debate to the Democrat Media.

Suicidally stupid.

Rush Limbaugh is supposed to be running America? LOL. I love the man but even he will be making fun at your statement.

Always the most competitive candidate wins, it is a fact. No one is putting a gun in any voter head forcing him to vote for a particular candidate.

Hunter and Thompson are the only two viable candidates in this race, IMHO.

What do you mean by "viable"?

“Honestly I think Thompson is too much of the same old thing and Hunter isn’t enough of the same old thing.”

Okay, that’s fine. My point is why do conservatives in the media speak of Romney and Huckabee as having a better chance than Thompson who is ahead of them in national polls. Too often for coincidence, which indicates it’s deliberate.
