Thanks a lot for this. You just provided a short synopsis of what is happening right now. Very valuable.

I wish so much the Cedar Revolution could reach its dream to move to a democratic future. But Syria, Iran and Hezzbully will not sit idly by and allow that to occur.

They’ve already made their usual pronouncements of violence if not given their way. Of course that isn’t via any democratic process. Something they abhor more than death.

The French like everyone else will be struggling to overcome the forces of evil vs. democracy. There are no easy fixes.

You have an armed element, Hezzbully demanding that no democratic outcome be allowed least they be reduced to the sidelines.

‘Israel’s best friend’ firmly backing Arabs at Annapolis conference

Peretz WAS defense minister. He’s gone now - Barak is DM and Olmert has been PM since Sharon took ill.

This conference will only lead to conflict. All I can think is, either Bush is a dope, or he’s TRYING to trigger Syrian and/or Iranian overt intervention so we can use it as a cassus belli. I don’t think he’s that smart, but there’s a good chance of it ending up that way down the line.

This makes me want something horrible to happen to Syria.

If the army (along with Hezzy) tries to overthrow the Cabinets authority, the next thing they should see is blue helmets. I agree with the above piece..there will be a split authority. Hezzy and Iran/Syria will wait to make a move.

Yep, they never are. But they are always confusing, at least to me. I’ve still to hear an inarguable analyses, one way or another, as to whether the events in Pakistan are a good thing or a bad thing. Now I’ll have to add Lebanon to the same muddy equation.

"Question..where are the French?"

They are in Afghan and North Africa. You know, if Lebanon becomes destabilized, the Al-Queda douche bags will be coming to capitalize on it like a bunch of SA skinheads we have come to love and adore. /s.

Al-Queda's goal is to encourage anarchy. They are just skinheads with weapons. The Iraqis are onto them and the Lebanese can tire of them faster.

Many agree with your sentiment. Unfortunately, not sure how Syria gets what they deserve for their subversion of Lebanon’s attempt at freedom.

Afraid that after the amount of success Syria and Hezzbully have had smuggling arms and bigger missiles into southern Lebanon, they will hardly be deterred by any of the UN’s ineffective blue helmet force.

And if Hezzbully starts to turn its aim north on the Lebanese government, the UN “mandate” from the countries providing the blue helmets will lead to evacuation not engagement.

And there is little doubt that Iran, Syria and Hezzbully will doubt otherwise.

We'll just keep takin' out their 'agricultural' facilities until no capital or scientific know-how is willing to set foot there.

I'm pretty sure they consider themselves on notice these days. Any overt interference now in Lebanon would be suicide. I hope they do something stupid, I like changing their map up. It's therapeutic.

No. It's all State Department BS. Unfortunately, Condi Rice went in with good intentions and the place compromised her. Just like with Bush. The next president has to hire people that will go in and fire just 10% of these departments to show who's the boss.

“Looks like we have a new “President for Life”. It’s the new political fashion statement.”

It is the favored way under peaceful islam.

Mubarek, Kadaffi, Arafat, Assad, Hussein, Shah of Iran, Musharef, Idi Amin, Saudi Kings, etc.

Best they continue to practice their centuries old customs of brother killing brother, muslim killing muslim.

Why? It could be good. Very good actually

Except that this guy is a Hezbollah and Syrian ally, about to lose power to the anti-Syrian government. The questions are:
Will the army support the pro-Hezbollah coup.
Will the army fragment.
What will the government do?
What will Syria do??
What will Israel do??
Whay will the US do??
What will Iran do?
Will nuclear weapons be used?

Yes, I mixed up Lahoud (the Syrian stooge) with Siniora. See my post before.

I don’t see Israel letting Hezbollah take over Lebanon.

Me neither. But I think that the first step for Israel is to remove it’s own “leadership”, namely Olmert, Perez and Livni.
