Beyond the basics I’d say the most important thing is decisiveness. Presidents don’t need to have all the answers. They just need to recognize the right answer when they see it.

The way we select Presidents is pretty well messed up.

Stump speeches only show delivery polish, which doesn’t matter in a crisis in the situation room.

Likewise these so-called “debates” only showcase skills that have nothing whatever to do with the day to day stuff of being President. A really skilled debater doesn’t show anything that’ll matter in the oval office. Just as a poor performer in a “debate” might well be far better under the pressure of a high stress problem in the situation room.

They’re just different skills.

Heck... American Idol has a better formed selection plan.
