And the “official” temperatures for most cities are recorded at the local airports, which are notorious asphalt “heat islands”.

Parking a MiG in front of the thermometer. How can that possibly harm anything?

That’s the funny part. They claim to have corrected for urban island effects, but their ‘correction’ is only minor when you look at just how many of these stations are located at airports and other locations where the urban island heating effect is far greater than average location.

Why not place them near active volcanos?

The whole global warming myth is a sham. It has nothing to do with climate change. It is another method for socialists to further their agenda of a one world government via the UN.

It’s interesting to me that no one ever mentions what the is in these calculations. They scream about a 0.2 degree increase when the margin of error is plus or minus two whole degrees.

Fear, greed, guilt and envy. These are the prime motivators and the AGW story has all of 'em.....in abundance.

Not exactly new "news" for Freepers, but worth remembering.

It only gets worse elsewhere. In fact, the top dog, Hansen(sp?), has completely dropped South America and Africa from the official UN temperature/climate model(s) as a source of input.

I've been waiting for better news from Europe but they have been suspiciously silent ever since it was determined all US temperatures were questionable.

Then the doggone Arctic Ocean went and reversed course. It's been turning clockwise for decades. Now, just last week, it was reported to be turning counterclockwise. Who knows what that will lead to. Not often an entire ocean basin reverses course. (ta-da-daa-daa).

I remember an article about this nearly a year ago, with links to the location of weather stations. There were a few in Corsicana that I went looking for that I could never find.

Many were installed back in the 50’s and have never been calibrated for environmental changes since then. Its not like the USA has grown or anything since the 50’s.

Maybe Santa can bring a real GPS unit for Christmas so I can contribute pictures of these weather stations to the monitoring site.

Yep to everything your wrote.

And here is the corrected US temperature data graph which was quietly released by NASA with no fan fare from the MSM. (7 of the 11 hottest years in the US all occurred before 1955.)

And we don’t really know if that is “correct”.

Fur Shur we don’t know if the rest of the world has ever had its temperature measured correctly.

"And we don’t really know if that is 'correct'."

Very true!

"Fur Shur we don’t know if the rest of the world has ever had its temperature measured correctly."

I would suspect that the rest of the world has a far more dubious temperature record. And I never hear this "consensus" of scientists discuss margin of error. Why is that?

We do know that almost all stations with any kind of history are on land. So 70% of the Earth is ignored right off the bat. To have a history, the thermometer would have to be in a populated area - another source of bias. On this map you can see that mountainous and inhospitable regions are also out.

On a somewhat related note. The local Clean Air Authority came to my city (I am the Public Works Director) and asked to place a new particulate collector to determine the level of and impact of diesel emissions. We said fine and told them they could place it on the roof at City Hall as it is located in the central core of the city. They said they needed to place it at the school bus barn and refused to allow that as it would skew the data and allow their agency to impose more draconian restrictions on the general public. That was over two years ago and they haven’t been back since...

That’s a good map. I am in the seismic survey business and we have data points which cover surveys. It’s very difficult to interpolate or extrapolate uncovered areas. We do it, but the science (algorithms) is not fully solid.
