BOOKMARK and bump
i’ve spent three evenings this past year on the phone with my boy. At the time he was crying his eyes out over another one of his “brothers” who got killed in Iraq.
That isn’t easy to deal with. Thought i’d seen the last of it in my generation...wrong.
What i wouldn’t give to spare my boy from having to deal with that.
He deploys to Afghanistan with his brigade sometime after January. He’s a sniper. i really don’t want to deal with what that is going to do to him.
Thanks for sharing about your son. There’s a hidden human cost to our troops and our families.
The scale of it was considerably less in the first Gulf War but the federal government clearly was trying to shaft them on post-service care. And that was a much smaller number of troops involved directly in extended combat and occupation in a hostile area.
I expect the human toll on our troops and vets to be at least three to four times what it was in GW I. And I don’t see very much interest by the federal government in their care unless they have brain injuries or have lost limbs.
This is all a shame. Care for our veterans should be at least as important as something like SCHIP.
When someone in the mass media stands and does something just and right, who will stand with him?
Some talk. Some walk the talk. Who else actually supports our Vets with personal time and fiscal sacrifices?
Pinging some I know do walk the talk.
