Some think Giulinai’s the man for busting terrorism, largely on the basis of his crime-busting record. I don’t think it holds up.
The man most responsible for that was Police Chief Bill Bratton, who was dumped by Giuliani when he got his picture on the cover of Time in 1996. And Giuliani didn’t talk to him again for ten years. Anyone who threatens Rudy’s ego gets dumped, abandoned or otherwise disposed of.
So, what exactly did Rudy do on 9/11 that was so special? Let’s look at what he did before 9/11 that was kinda special.
Mayor Giuliani sued all the way up to the Supreme Court to defend the city’s sanctuary policy against a federal law stating that city employees could not be prohibited from cooperating with the INS. Oh yeah? sez Giuliani; just watch me. The INS, he claimed with what turned out to be grotesque irony, only aims to “terrorize people.” Though he lost in court, he remained defiant to the end.
On September 5, 2001, his handpicked charter-revision committee ruled that New York could still keep immigration information confidential to preserve trust between immigrants and government
I am convinced that a Hillary win would result in a fighting-trim, fully aroused, roaring back, conservative Republican Party which will eat her lunch in 2010 leaving her with half a term and no Congress.
Wheereas a Rudy win would result in a divided, disgusted, mutually-detesting Republican Party and a defeat for conservative principles and policies which would take decades to recover from.
If you don't mind, I'm stealin' this. Now, if I can shrink it down into a tagline....

Thank you. Absolutely. As a former NYer I and every other person in the NYC area in the late 90s through 2002 know all about Rooty. Those like Podhoretz who say that Rooty will take some of the blue NY-ish like NJ and Pennsylvania — well, they are misinformed or smoking something.

I know that NYFD has already spoken out against Rooty and will do so again. The MSM won’t give them a platform... YET... because they want him to get the nomination and THEN lift up their cause. Ensuring a Hitlery presidency, or so they hope.

As a conservative I certainly will never gamble that by losing you can win. Politics are a game of tug-o-rope where a coffee break means that you lose ground that will require twice as much effort to regain. I think conservatives are already aroused but they can't seem to get aligned long enough to fight the enemy. I've been a Republican for over forty years and I'm afraid I'm not as optimistic as you that a Hillary win could cause a constructive alignment among conservatives. Rather than a shot in the arm, I believe it would be another shot in the heart of many young conservatives who have already decided the GOP is weak and ineffective and cause many to look to 3rd party candidates thus insuring an even longer tenure for the socialists.
To give you some hope though, yesterday I did talk to a young 28-year old conservative who had never before voted but who is committed to voting in 2008 against Hillary. This baby-boomer has decided I will try my best to not let him down.

One way to help that effort would be to avoid preemptively announcing your intention to vote for him in the general election, thus encouraging his supporters.
I had given thought to that very question but decided I could do as much harm by being disingenuous about not supporting the GOP.
You are so right about polls being a tool for shaping public oppinion. Polls get the bandwagon effect started. I have been so annoyed about the “top tier” nonsense. It is the media annointing whom they think should be the top candidates.
Some years ago one of the tv networks did an expose of slave labor in Chinatown. The workers were indentured servants who were kept in the factory day and night until they paid off their debt to the smugglers.
This story made me wonder how they could operate in the middle of New York City without fear of the city’s building inspectors. I think the building inspectors are told to look the other way and I think that businesses that hire illegals are paying off the mayors and governors. This corruption seems to go all the way to the top in New York City.
