Unlike anyone else but Rudy, Fred is trying to appeal to the general voter, as well as the GOP base. The difference is, he doesn’t have to nuance his position. He’s well and truly a federalist, and has long been an advocate of returning some rightful power back to the states, as the 10th Amendment proscribes.

The founding President of National Right to Life Committee, the "father of the pro-life movement", Dr. John Willke has endorsed Mitt Romney. Further, the National Right to Life Committee's OWN pro-life ratings does not make Thompson look all that good:
His voting record, according to Project Vote Smart's list of his ratings from National Right to Life, are:
- 1996 86%
- 1997 83%
- 1998 87%
- 1999 75%
- 2000 77%
And according to National Right to Life Committee's own ratings:
- 105th Congress 87%
- 106th Congress 78%
- 107th Congress 33%
If you average the ratings reported by Project Vote Smart, you get only an 81.6% pro-life rating.
If you average the ratings reported directly by the National Right to Life Commitee, you get only a 66% rating.

No joke.
Thompson is for reversing Roe v. Wade and fighting it out at the state level — a winning strategy.
All these people holding out for a top-down solution are killing babies by bad strategy.

Exactly.
It is time to treat this for what it is, a war.
It is time to fight it with tactics not empty and tired rhetoric...

BUMP for this thread. I’m sick and tired of everyone skinning Fred, who has an excellent voting record on life, while Rudy is on a fast track toward the nomination. Let’s get behind Fred before Rudy and Hillary are our only choices.

Just saw this on "The Corner"....
The National Right to Life Committee is going to endorse a presidential candidate tomorrow. It could have more of an impact than Robertson. My guessand it's only a guessis that the NRLC is going to go with Romney. [Ramesh Ponnuru] More payback from National Review for Romney's "donations"...?
Heard anything about this endorsement?

I will be surprised if they endorse Romney. They have been very outspoken about Fred’s record.

And that's why Fred calls himself a 'practical conservative'.
And I concur.
