I, on the other hand, grew up in MA, knew Mitt Romney personally (still do), worked on that 94 Senate campaign from getting enough signatures to get him on the Republican primary ballot to the very end (about 8-9 months), have relatives who have been active in local politics (Republican and Democrat) for decades, and just plain lived with the political situation in that state for most of my 43 years. Call me unreasonable, but I think I have the better credentials on both Romney and MA politics than some out-of-state, armchair quarterback with Internet access.
Thank you for the enlightenment about this curmudgeon!

No. I stated there aren't enough Republicans left in the legislature to SUSTAIN a veto. Unless Romney had Democrats to help him, his vetoes were WORTHLESS.
"You should be prepared to back it up. Don't make others do your homework for you."
Since the Mittwitts enjoy spamming FR with their propaganda, and I have similarly written no fewer than 2,500 posts on the FACTS of the "MA Situation", let's see some facts come up from their side for a change. Reaganesque put out that laundry list of vetoes. Big whoop. Let's see how many were sustained. I'm calling him out.
"FYI, it's true that many of his vetoes were overturned, especially toward the end of his term. But, some very important ones stuck, such as his veto of a bill to give in-state tuition to illegals in the UMass system."
So in which case it goes back to what he said, that he had to rely on Democrats to back him up since there weren't enough Republicans to do so on a party-line vote.
"In 2003, most of his spending vetoes stuck. This was very important, because tax revenues were down in that year, and there would have been a huge deficit without some spending cuts or tax increases. The Dems wanted to raise tax rates to close the gap, but he held his ground, prevented the tax hike, and insisted on spending cuts. He won. This was a huge victory."
So again, with Democrat help.
"It was harder to sustain his spending vetoes in the last couple years because the state was not in fiscal crisis anymore (largely thanks to him standing his ground in 2003). The economy was expanding faster, which caused an increase in tax revenue without a hike in tax rates. With the state budget flush with cash, it was much harder to stop the Dems from spending it, even though he did everything he could to try to stop it. I don't see why he should be blamed for his veto overrides, though, since he didn't elect the legislature."
So it's not HIS fault now, huh ? I'm sorry, but it IS a Governor's responsibility, indeed his PREMIER responsibility as party leader, to sustain a legislative majority if one is present, or to increase the minority numbers. He was a spectacular failure at doing so. He couldn't even get in enough Senators to sustain a veto. That's simply pathetic. I find it remarkable all his most stalwart defenders whine "it's not his fault", "it's Massachusetts", as if either is a valid excuse for failed leadership. Imagine if this guy ended up as President and he had to face REAL disasters in office ? Thinking of another politician, Ray Nagin, who was a disaster as Mayor of NOLA, at least he had the balls to run for reelection. Romney didn't even have that and couldn't run away fast enough.
You’ve been called repeatedly on your facts, and your own closeness to the candidate compromises your credibility. I think the real problem you have with me is that I got your boy nailed 100%, along with the political and historical situation in the state, and that really rubs you the wrong way. If I were fawning over your boy, you’d be crediting me with being an “experienced and knowledgeable” out-of-state FReeper, otherwise, the insults and the putdowns fly fast and furious.
BTW, if I were you, I’d be turning my attentions to Huckster from AR, he’s stealing your boy’s thunder (and votes). Huckster was nearly as bad as (and on illegals, worse than) Romney in laying to waste his state’s GOP. You’d better get on that tout de suite, dude.
