So why did we hear about the James Byrd killing for over a year? It was an open and shut case. They caught the thugs that committed the crime and prosecuted them. Yet, Dan Rather went back to the town where it happened for something like three years doing updates on how the black community there was “healing”, whether or not the whites there felt sufficiently guilty, and so on. Byrd’s daughter was invited to speak at the Democratic convention.
Why do we still hear about Matthew Shepherd all these years after his murder? Because homosexuals are a protected class, and so are some racial minorities. The media go bananas over politically incorrect crimes. However, there aren’t that many of them, so they have to milk the few they get for all it’s worth. And they desperately jump the gun sometimes due to their desire to find such crimes, so we get fiascos like the Duke case.
Sorry, but you know as well as I do that if a young black couple had been subjected to the horror that happened in Knoxville at the hands of whites, we’d get daily updates and the usual suspects would be prowling the streets looking for signs of “racism” in the white community. Nancy Grace would be live on the scene, and so would Geraldo. The New York Times would have a reporter camped out there with daily major reports.
A movie would have been made about the Wichita atrocity by now if the races had been reversed.
OK, then, pretend you’re Katie Couric. How do you talk about it more than once without repeating yourself?

The way you would cover the Knoxville atrocity daily for months would be to use the very tactics the media use when something like the James Byrd or Matthew Shepherd killings occurred, or the Duke fake rape was alleged to occur.
Ask yourself, how would Katie & Co. have covered the Knoxville murders if the races had been reversed? Well, to start, the opening story on the CBS Evening News would have been a shocker: “RACIAL NIGHTMARE ROCKS KNOXVILLE: INNOCENT BLACK COUPLE SLAUGHTERED BY WHITE ASSAILANTS”.
We would have then gotten story after story following the same theme. Every new detail, no matter how minor, would necessitate a new report, all the way through the trial and conviction. But there would be much more.
We’d get televised interviews with the victims’ families, in which they would be asked if race was the motivating factor in the murders. Of course, they would say “yes”. The media would go through the background of the murderers with a fine toothed comb. We’d find out that one of them was prone to use the “N” word, or one of them didn’t get along with blacks in high school. Then we’d get a history lecture on Knoxville. Every KKK march or cross burning within 200 miles of the place in the past century would be dredged up to “prove” that Knoxville was a “racist” city.
Next, “civil rights” leaders would start asking why the murderers were able to torture and rape their victim for four days before killing her. Why didn’t the cops find them and rescue the black girl during those four days? Jesse & Al would show up and accuse the Knoxville cops of not really trying to find her once she turned up missing. Reporters from CBS & CNN & the NY Times would be camped outside the mayors’ and police chiefs’ office, hounding them with questions about why they were unable to save the girl. Was it because she was black and they didn’t really care? The mayor and the cops would then be on the defensive, and would be forced to grovel, forced to pledge more affirmative action programs, etc.
There would be a big march, of course, with celebrities contributing money. Perhaps even a riot. All good for lots of media coverage.
Then, the Democrats would chime in, blaming the murders on the “chilling anti-civil rights” atmosphere created by the Republicans and President Bush. John Conyers would start a congressional probe into the Knoxville horror. A coalition of “civil rights” groups would link the slaughter to the increasingly conservative Supreme Court, alleging that Alito & Roberts have given encouragement to “racists” by opposing quotas and busing. This would merit lavish media coverage.
Of course, Hillary Clinton would soon be running ads on black radio, warning that unless she’s elected, there will be more such massacres of blacks at the hands of racist whites.
After a few months of this, Katie might announce a symposium on race to be held in Knoxville. The purpose would be to find out if whites had grown less racist since the nightmarish slaughter occurred. Local blacks would be interviewed and would naturally find that the white community wasn’t contrite enough. Jesse & Al would agree: “What we need is a Knoxville Project, like the Laramie Project, to monitor the white folks in this city in perpetuity”.
Of course, by this point, someone like Brian de Palma or George Clooney would have already begun scripting the film version of this story.
So just imagine the media responding to the Knoxville or Wichita massacres the way they would respond if the victims had been black and the murderers white. There’s your answer as to how to cover this story repeatedly.

Granted, American police (or administrators) are a lot tougher than their British counterpoints, but they are getting there.
A targeted ritualistic Black Muslim murder of white people during the mid 70’s in San Francisco. The idea was to earn Death Angel status and drive all whites out of San Francisco. Scoring was 9 men, 5 women or 4 children to get the wings.
When the book by Howard Clark “Zebra: The true account of the 179 days of terror in San Francisco” was written there were at least 15 accredited “Death Angels” but it was suspected there were at least 50 Death Angels. The killings took place all over California. The MO always was a execution-style murder, either with a machete or a pistol, in which the killer or killers was always a well-dressed and groomed youngish black man, and the victim always white.

The Electric chair was grandfathered in for that case. It is no longer an option.

Well, if they did, we'd have to have a special channel just to cover these atrocities. Maybe two or three channels. A vicious white-on-black killing, such as the James Byrd murder, happens like once every twenty years, but vicious black-on-white killings are quite common.
And imagine if the media went into a frenzy every time a white female was gang raped by blacks.
All we're complaining about is the double standard. White-on-black crime is pretty rare, yet whenever it occurs, there's a media firestorm to cover it as lavishly as possible, while emphasizing the race factor to the tenth degree. Even the hint that such a crime may have occurred, as at Duke, sends the media into overdrive before even the facts are in. Yet even horrifying torture murders of whites by blacks are treated as "just another local crime" and dismissed with either no coverage at all, or a lone wire service report which downplays or usually even ignores the racial factors.
Just look at the ludicrous amount of national media coverage given to noose issues recently. Some convenience store clerk was wearing a punk rock T-shirt that showed bodies hanging from nooses. A black customer complained. The clerk got fired. And this merited national media coverage!!!!???
Someone on this thread asked what the Zebra killings were. Most people today don't have any idea, and have never even heard of those killings. If a comparable reign of terror against blacks had occurred, it would be emblazoned into the minds of everyone in the country. Movies would have been made about it. It would even be included as a significant moment in the sordid history of racist America in our school textbooks. Instead, the Zebra rampage is almost forgotten, and 95% of the people who aren't old enough to personally remember it have never heard of it. Compare that to the killing of Emmett Till. And would Congress ever vote to re-open the Zebra case as a federal issue? Wait for the laughter to die down.

There is going to be a move by some to return to the electric chair:
[Tennessee law allows death row inmates to choose between lethal injection and electrocution if their crimes were committed before 1999. Bredesen, a Democrat, has said Cooper advised him the state can’t fall back on old laws for electrocution. . . (Rep. Jason) Mumpower said he’s glad to hear the state will appeal Trauger’s ruling, but said he believes the state can continue executions by the electric chair.
“I think it’s important to point out that the three-drug combination is not the only means of lethal injection and not the only means of execution,’’ Mumpower said.
