Bill number HR 2387, the Parental Consent Act of 2007 was introduced in the House of Representatives “To prohibit the use of Federal funds for any universal or mandatory mental health screening program.”

It has only 20 cosponsors, listed here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:HR02387:@@@P

Congressional directory if people want to find out why their Rep isn’t a cosponsor:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt

The Findings section of the bill notes some pretty scary stuff - a short excerpt:
“(5) Because of the subjectivity of psychiatric diagnosis, it is all too easy for a psychiatrist to label a person’s disagreement with the psychiatrist’s political beliefs a mental disorder.

“(6) Efforts are underway to add a diagnosis of “extreme intolerance” to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Prisoners in the California State penal system judged to have this extreme intolerance based on race or sexual orientation are considered to be delusional and are being medicated with anti-psychotic drugs. (Washington Post 12/10/05)

“(7) At least one federally-funded school violence prevention program has suggested that a child who shares his or her parent’s traditional values may be likely to instigate school violence.”

I’ve never heard of Teen Screen either. And I am very glad my daughter is homeschooled. But I have read and heard of the technique of using passive consent, because frankly, parents are busy people, may not thoroughly read the various notices and other stuff that comes home from the school, thereby resulting in a deceptive way to get “permission” from parents without the parent being that aware. Government schools I guess don’t believe in being up front,do they? Sort of like California now allowing underage kids to get abortions without their parents consent. Parents are the enemy to the government school types.

I am suspicious of government types getting hold of kids, testing them with an untried system, experimenting on them and then labeling them. That does not sit to well with me at all.

No kidding. She’d be as likely to be labeled homicidal after killing the psychologist for bothering her with such stupid stuff.

Don't forget, sometimes loose things or forget to bring papers home.

You’ve got that right. Sending papers home with kids is not always reliable, is it?

Government types with the power to label. Very scary.
