I’m sick of these guys. Pull our men out and turned the Middle East into a sea of glass.

Thank you for the additional information.

Indeed there are restrictions on the Kurdish language throughout the ME. Too bad the W.W.I border-drawing folks didn't pay more attention to languages. I suppose.

Financial Times opinion piece

Commenting on the recent elections

"[The AKP] was the only party whose support was not confined to a specific region or class. Notably, its victory over Kurdish nationalists in many predominantly Kurdish provinces provided it with a mandate to launch a new democratic opening to deal with the Kurdish problem while fighting separatist terrorism. "

There is also the democratic way (small 'd' of course!) The author is a Turk but if what he said is true about the victory over Kurdish nationalists wouldn't it be well for all of us to give this a chance?

Interesting point IMO. Much is being reported about the AKP vis-a-vis their authorized cross-border attacks on the PKK but nothing that reports on the AKP dual efforts.

More legitimate? Is Abdullah Ocalan now Nelson Mandela? Are PKK terrorists in Iraq justified in crosing the border to kill Turkish soldiers, civilians and tourists? How is Turkey oppressing and occupying Iraqi Kurds? How are the European tourists PKK has bombed oppressing anybody?

Historically, Turkey hasn’t treated its own Kurdish minority well, although they’ve made recent improvements. But does that mean Turkey has no right to defend itself from Marxist terrorists coming from Iraq and killing its citizens?

Given that Turkey was organized as a national state after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Kurdish population is a bit like the Arabs in Israel. Except that the Kurds and Turks share the same religion.

You didn't understand the argument. Read it again.
