I am having a real problem with a "christian psychologist" (nice oxymoron there) telling me who is and is'nt acceptable to vote for, based on whether thay have the kissed the ring and made the proper devotions to Pope, er, Dr. Dobson.

Maybe the good Dr. should truly Focus on the Family and let politics take care of itself.

the social conservatives (i.e. American Taliban)

Atta boy! Make sure all of those religious bigots out there get put in their place, son.

Do I really need to add the sarcasm tag?

"Get the social conservatives (i.e. American Taliban) out and let the party be filled with fiscal conservative and social moderates."

You mean the fiscal conservatives like Bush I and II who broke the "no new taxes" pledge and grew the gov't bigger and faster than the Clintons? And the social moderates who already own one party, but think they need to own both in order to be certain that their death cult, weird sex agenda thrives?

"American Taliban" = middle America who doesn't buy into your objectives to destroy western civilization.

Not to worry. If the liberals manage to get Rudy nominated, whatever Republican politics that go on from thenceforth will have little or nothing to do with morals, the family, etc. In other words, your wish will come true. Of course, the Republicans will never have any power again and will get to join the Democrats in "me tooing" everything they stand for, or they can sit home with the conservatives after having turned the country over to the Socialists.

I’m a pastor and I have no problem sharing my views.

I’m also a US citizen, so that’s just fine.

The difference is that Dobson gets to speak to far many more people.

And the religious faith or lack thereof of candidates for the presidency of the USA is an issue of concern for those who Focus on the Family.

Because decisions are based on beliefs.

I think you are assuming too much or putting words in my mouth. I am not a fan of Julie-Annie.

I am also not a fan of ministry leaders that have forgotten about that christian value of “humility”. Maybe Dobson and others need to re-read Romans and understand that God Almighty will make sure that who He wants in charge is going to be in charge. Maybe later, he can get to the very end of the story and maybe grasp that politics or Man’s best thinking will, sooner or later, take us straight to the Apocalypse.

And if you think any GOP politics at the RNC level have anything to do or in common with christianity for the past 2 decades, I have a couple of bridges I’ll let you buy from me for really cheap...

Amen. Pushing people out of the Republican party because someone decides they’re not “true conservatives” is like a circle of wolves hungrily eyeing each other and devouring themselves one by one.

I never thought I would see justifications for 'party purges' on a conservative website.

That is the most un-conservative thing a conservative can advocate.

I don't think politics at the RNC level has anything at all to do with Christianity, and I did not imply that I believed that. I do, however, remember what politics was like before the so-called "religious right" began to play a role in Republican politics. The Republican party was laughable insofar as the power to move any agenda was concerned. Without them, the Republicans are likely to return to the same laughable status with the Democrats steamrolling the country with their anti-American, death cult, Socialist agenda.

I agree. People like Dobson should be ignored. The religious right can form a party if they want to. I don’t think they are the base of the party at all. The base of the party are social moderates and fiscal conservatives, they are just not vocal. If the GOP is to have any future at all, it needs to become more “with it,” and get rid of the nasty intolerant types like Dobson.

I ran into the Dobson types at my church in my early years. Total turn off. Lucky for me, we had some cool youth directors that kept me in the fold, or I would have never returned to church.

***I find this kind of conjecture fascinating. In particular, since this is a social conservative forum, it’s a little bit like telling a cop you don’t even know that you don’t like him but you want him to protect you from this terrible neighbor who threatened you because you let your dog poop on his lawn.

If the GOP is to have any future at all, it needs to become more “with it,” and get rid of the nasty intolerant types like Dobson.
***Perhaps you can’t see how self-contradictory your remarks are? You are on a social conservative forum, saying you don’t like social conservatives like Dobson, and that the GOP needs to get rid of them. Hey, Einstein, this is not a GOP Forum. This is a socon forum. The main reason why this forum works so well is because of the tolerance of the socons — and your blatant intolerancy towards such tolerant souls is enough to ask me why you are even here on Free Republic in the first place. WideAwake would be a much more suitable forum for you.

I ran into the Dobson types at my church in my early years. Total turn off. Lucky for me, we had some cool youth directors that kept me in the fold, or I would have never returned to church.
***I keep running into intolerant types like you here on Free Republic. Total turn off. Lucky for me, JimRob and other socons have stuck it out when others abandoned ship, and FR became the premiere gathering place for conservatives.

The decisions of the president are his decisions and the affect a nation of people. Therefore, they affect religious people, and that includes the listeners to Focus on the Family.

If you wish to separate yourself from the love of Christ Jesus, that would be your decision.

Well, let’s review, shall we?
“We” got Reagan elected in 1980.
“We” got the GOP a majority in congress in 1994.
“We” gave the GOP a congressional majority PLUS the presidency (an ostensibly, open christian as a president, too) from 200 through 2006.

And yet somehow, I am supposed to look at the ever growing cesspool in this country and tremble at the alternative?

No.

Your claim might have merit, except for the fact that the GOP is itself advancing the left’s same anti-life and socialist game plan just fine. I have seen the Reagan Revolution, the 1994 end of the Roosevelt majority, and the GOP take 2 out 3 branches of government from 2000-2006. My reward? Spending on domestic programs that LBJ could’nt have gotten done in his wildest dreams, over air commercial TV advertising with material that I could’nt access in a movie theatre when I was a kid, and an ever deeper and filthier moral cesspool.

I have become convinced that a large part of the Church’s problem in America the seduction of secular power that men like Dobson are fornicating with.

I repeat, Dobson and any other “man of God” worthy of that title should stop playing around with their standing in the Nation politics and pay more to their duties to the Kimgdom.

But your mileage may vary...

You and I are going to have to agree to disagree.

There is nothing of any importance that has taken place politically in my lifetime. The ‘rats, the GOP, the Muslims, the commies — all of them, just players shouting out their lines in a script that is nearing the final act.

I would prefer Dobson spend a little less time judging the state of other’s faith and more time preaching Christ crucified.
