I don't think so. If your goal is the free market, there is no need for totalitarian methods, and no point to them. The end preexists in the means.
Indeed. However, their massive economic growth is generated through their exports, which are made cheap through that devalued currency. That economy is growing at 10 percent, and the side effects (pollution, possible inflation) could become distressing to them. I suspect it will ultimately be in THEIR interest to float their currency, which, if it appreciates against the dollar, will slow the growth down to a more “natural” rate and allow the chicoms to get a handle on their pollution and inflation.
You’re right about our currency. Our currency devaluation is a disgrace. If I had my way, it would still be backed by gold and silver.
No need. Sure. No point. Absolutely.
I was just pointing out that Capitalism and Totalitarism are not mutually exclusive.
Neither is Communism and Democracy (see Venezuela, NY, CA, NJ, MA).
Marxism is an economic theory not a political theory. In actual practice in the USSR etc. it became necesary to use Totalitarianism to support Socialism and prevent individuals from pursuing their own goals.
Which begs the question...if Socialism is so great, why are people getting on rafts trying to escape it?
