"In this city, one has to be extra careful," he told Al Día . "And if possible, avoid going through there, because we suspect, and with good reason, that people are being detained simply because of their appearance." If they're being detained, I suspect their appearance isn't the only factor.

Just as I thought, Illegal enforcement is bubbling up from below, like Welfare Reform. The states and municipalities are stepping up to the plate. What we need now is a few big-city mayors and state governors to take up the cause.

At least 1,600 people have been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement since June 2006 as part of the Criminal Alien Program Good for Irving, increased safety for the citizens, good for the unemployed citizens. I see no down side to Irving Mayor Herbert Gears efforts.
Good for him. Perhaps the mayor would be interested in higher political office.

The states and municipalities are stepping up to the plate. Makes sense because this is where most of the cost of illegal immigration is paid for. The Federal side gets all the fraudulent FICA/medicare payments.

What would really get things moving is to apply civil forfeiture laws to illegals property and the people who rent to them.
You would see those liberal “sanctuary cities” fall on their “immigrant” populations like ravening hyenas if they could make a buck that way.

It's not the "apperance"....its the behavior. There are plenty of people who look like mexicans here who do not get profiled because they don't behave like illegals.

Mexican Consul Enrique Hubbard Urrea has issued an unusual warning
to ILLEGAL immigrants from his country:
Avoid the city of Irving.
There, that's better.
And time for me to add Irving to the list of places I wouldn't
mind living.

Useful to note how this is happening. We should NOT object when New York or Oregon become “sanctuaries”. Conservatives can pull up roots and move from there. Then let the cost burdens fall on those liberals, sucking up money that cannot be sent to the DNC. Let crime begin. Let those places unravel.

But Irving officials said that last Saturdays arrests were part of an effort to target apartment complexes with high crime rates, not illegal immigrants. The deportations came from the jail staffs efforts to identify people who should be referred to federal immigration officials. Jose Carlos, 26, from El Salvador, said he ran into his apartment and slammed the door, like many other people did, and refused to open it despite banging by police.
Patricia, 39, of Mexico said police asked for immigration papers. She said they arrested enough people to fill two police vans. The residents asked that their last names not be used because they are in the United States illegally.
Mayor Herbert Gears disputed some of the residents comments. If somebodys arrested, it is because they have committed an arrestable offense, Gears said. Our police officers do not check for papers or documentation of citizenship.

Arrestable offense equals did something against the law. However one chooses to recognize a crime is fine with me, so long as they recognize the crime with punishment.

A short email of thanks to Mayor Herbert A. Gears is in order:Done. Hopefully he is among the first of many.
