McWhorter was making some good points . Then he spoiled it with this.

To those blacks, however, prisons that are half black when black people are only a tenth-and-change of the population proves that America remains racist to its core despite pretty surfaces.

Sorry, criminals belong in prison, regardless of their color.

They are being fed a load of crap and the race pimps are raking in the dough once again. A group of the protesters aren’t leaving until Mychal Bell is free. It shouldn’t take too long since the rally raised at least $23,000 and his bond is $10,500. Logic escapes many folks.

As far as the kids who did the noose hanging goes, they were punished more harshly than is being reported. They and their families had to go through counseling, they have done community service, they have had to have a battery of psychological tests before going back to school. They were also had to be separated from the other students. Not only that they and their families are receiving threats to this day.

This link takes you a story from yesterday; seems to be a shortage
of “on-the-ground” reporting today; ought to heat up after dark.

If they are keeping up their coverage this morning, you can get
a belly-ful of "reporting" on CNN.

This morning they were interviewing some fat white chick who
came into Jena from Los Angeles for the cause of "social justice".

It looks like a bunch of limo liberals wanting to "get down" and
be socially relevant.

With CNN as main facilitator for conveying all their profound
communiques.

I could only stand to watch/listen for a minute or so this morning.

“psychological tests “

The ol’ communist trick that anyone who does something the left-wingers don’t like must be nuts.

Liberalism is a mental illness.

I never heard of the “Jena 6” until yesterday. I follow the news very closely and this story came out of nowhere. Obviously pushed by the black organizations and the MSM.

Can anyone tell me if the six black kids who beat up the white kid until he was unconcious are going to be CHARGED WITH A HATE CRIME?

Of course not. Didn’t you check the color chart? 6 BLACK one WHITE. The white guy had it coming - you know that!

I had a difficult time understanding the article.

It sounds like he’s saying that blacks commit significantly more violent crimes because there are laws against illegal drugs.

"McWhorter was making some good points . Then he spoiled it with this."

"To those blacks, however, prisons that are half black when black people are only a tenth-and-change of the population proves that America remains racist to its core despite pretty surfaces."

You have to be regular reader of McWhorter, and his communication precision (he's like a Tom Sowell). The key there is "To those blacks" and he is simply telling you, in his honest opinion, how things appear "to those blacks". With only one caveat, and only that one, does he make any intellectual defense of the characterization of "how things appear", by noting how that characterization would be diminished if there was a lower rate of incarceration of young black males, if so many were not scooped up in the "war on drugs", for possession of a drug above a limit to which personal use is considered its purpose. He would not be the first conservative to argue for a different approach to the "war on drugs" as no less than William F. Buckley Jr. has long, and often made those arguments.

I think McWhorter is not making an intellectual defense of "those blacks", but an honest view of how things quite easily appear to many of them (right or wrongly). And some of what they ("those blacks") have observed locally reinforces those "appearances". I think that is McWhorter's real point. Some local conditions reinforce a stereotype (the nooses hanging in the trees) in a community that should be doing all it can to demonstrate that stereotype is not true, in their community, and when some local officials are actually responsible for some of the error; confirming the stereotype. In that context, it is not strange that "those blacks" would see a similarity in the stereotype and recent events.

If ‘those blacks’ see a similarity between a couple nooses hanging in a tree and beating the sh$$ out of a guy (6 to 1) then we will never see an integrated society.

To CajunConservative:

Thanks so very much.

Thanks to your post, with the link to the timeline of the whole “Jena” story,....

http://www.thejenatimes.net/home_page_graphics/home.html

...I must now either question Mr. McWhorter, or question how informed HE is/was when he wrote his article. On that note, I am forwarding to him the link to the local paper that you gave to us.

I guess I have some mea culpas to say.

Read my last post on this thread, to Canjun Conservative, and accept my mea culpa.

McWhorter had given more on the subject than I had read before (not really kept up with it), but from reading the timeline in the link that CajunConservative gave us, McWhorter is/was either as incompletely informed as I, or making excuses where he most regularly does not. I have sent him the link with that timeline, through his editor.

One of our great Freeper “informants”, CajunConservative, gave us (in post # 30 of this thread) the following link.

http://www.thejenatimes.net/home_page_graphics/home.html

In that link, toward the bottom, is a COMPLETE timeline of the “Jena” story.

It changes my view of McWhorter’s opinion, because the time line more totally and accurate describes the totality of the context in which recent events need to be viewed.

It seems to me, in that time line, that current events in Jena have in fact been “jinned up”.

The only point I would have advocated earlier and more forceful action locally was for the principle to have sooner (immediately) had a joint parent student assembly to discuss the “noose” incident, and to have given harsher punishment to the “pranksters” for the potential (social environment) harm that such a “mere prank” can have, in their community. He may have pre-empted some measure of local support that those “jinning up” the situation were able to get, providing more “racial balance” in defense of the initial response. Does that defend current events. No, not at all. But, local officials there I would guess need to be pro-active in (not waiting to) undermining those who seek to use a situation to advance a political agenda.

See CanjunConservative’s contribution (#14) and my response to it (#30).

I forwarded her contribution (full Jena timeline) to McWhorter.

It's just more proof that the media is agenda driven than fact driven. Someone who lives in the area just posted this tidbit about Mychal Bell.

This is true. People who live in Jena know most of the Jena Six's previous crimes, yet the world doesn't know because the files are sealed. Bell also stole an automobile and ran over an 8 year old child. He was under the influence of drugs and the drugs were found on him at the scene. Oh, he didn't even have a driver's license when this took place, he wasn't of legal age to be driving. When all of this comes out many will look like fools for supporting criminals. Of course, JUST MY HONEST OPINION.

“It’s just more proof that the media is agenda driven than fact driven.”

You couldn’t be more right, so I guess we can look for some publisher who keeps to the “correct” line of march, to come in and buy-up the local Jena paper that gave us the complete time line.

Clicking on the link, I get a truncated double column beginning of a story; where is the rest?

I just checked, the time line is still there at:

http://www.thejenatimes.net/home_page_graphics/home.html

There is a “major” column, of about 3/4 or more of the space, from left to right. On the right edge of that column there is “up” and “down” buttons (those little block-shaped arrows), to scroll the column up and down, just as there is on the far right edge, to scroll the web-page up and down.

Use the “inner” set of up/down scroll buttons to scroll down to the bottom of the column with the text of the story.

The time line is in that column, near the bottom.

Sorry, for the delay.
