says over Iran not with Iran. Half the world supporting it, half opposing it? Do we fight each other over them?

The five permanent Security Council members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- plus Germany are due to meet to discuss a new draft UN resolution on sanctions against Iran on September 21

Well, I'm sure that'll fix the problem.

I concur with Mariner. Iran is likely one of those rare situations that can be solved with airpower alone. Their air force is no match for us, so we would have air dominance early on day one, killing everything that flies and taking out the ground-based air defense stuff. Then we can destroy the nuke facilities. After that it depends on goals. One option would be to destroy just the Revolutionary Guard and whatever mullahs we can get and then see how the Iranian regular military handles things from there. The other option is to crush their entire military as well as the Guard, and a third is to just keep going until their infrastructure is so ruined that they literally have to choose between nationhood and having a nuke program.

France could strike from US air bases throughout the theatre.

Aircraft carriers are the only bases that we have in the region that would not require permission from the host country, including Iraq.

Which country do you think will host France?

Look I’m all for the end of the Islamic Republic, but to Code Pink and the Rats this just screams Christmas Bombings in Cambodia, which would make the similarities to Vietnam even “more clear”. The treasonous Rats will make anything we do to Iran a holocaust.

I’m not willing to risk Ahmadinejad having nukes because a bunch of pantywaists might screech about it. Either we go or we don’t, and Code Pink can pound sand.

"France waited quite a while after Germany invaded Poland. In fact they waited until France was overrun."

What was Italy doing back then? ...not that the WWII stuff is very relevant to our diplomacy with western Europe today. Political situations have changed in western Europe even more recently.

IRAN: ITALY MUST RELY ON TEHRAN TO BOOST ROLE IN MIDDLE EAST, DIPLOMAT ["Main trading partner."]

Excerpt:
"Italy is Iran's main trading partner in Europe and commercial relations between the two countries were reportedly worth five billion euros in 2005."

IRAN: D'ALEMA, SANCTIONS WOULD ESPECIALLY DAMAGE ITALY

Italy's out, and France has soldiers in Afghanistan, BTW. It would be nice, if we could get all of western Europe to help.

"The foreign minister also said leading French companies such as Total and Gaz de France had been urged not to undertake new work or contracts in Iran."

That's significant. Hopefully, other western European nations will follow.

The US has been the frontrunner in Afghanistan and Iraq. Let someone else take the lead in taking on Iran. Remember all those jerks like France, Germany and Russia wanted to “talk Saddam Hussein to death” because the trio were already dealing with him under the table plus UN Secy General Kofi Annan and his son were scamming all the countries with the oil-for-food program and PM of England was vilified for supporting America over Iraq. Lest we forget Canada at the time who’s PM’s brother in law had a financial interest in Iraq over the largest oil company owned by Canadians. Yep, let the rest of the world take on Iran. America can watch.

I guess I’m putting too much stock into the Anti-war crowd for worst case scenarios.

France has nothing to lose by taking action.

Just respect for their flag.

If your background on your desktop is white, their flag may be missed.

"We have to prepare for the worst, and the worst is war,"

Any more statements like this coming from France and I am going to need a new tagline.
