We need our heads examined for continuing membership in this anti-American organization.

I send paper down the toilet every morning having more important matter, than anything the U.N. could possibly draft...and really do something.

Oh, I have such contempt for the U.N. It has allowed genocide to run rampant; it has never done anything to address totalitarian oppression (hell, it actually enables it!); ir is a wholly toothless body when it comes to enforcing any of its resolutions. A totally corrupt and inept organization. Get rid of it.

My Teutonic forebearers were enslaved by the Romans. Do I get free land in Rome as reparation?

They should call this declaration the Magnus Nusquam.

UN doesn't believe in individual rights, just collective "rights", which don't exist. They really believe only in the agreement of government powers of selected member states, and most of them are authoritarians.

How long before we start hearing about “indigenious Palestinian” rights...

That’s an interesting idea, blam.

As somebody of (East) Indian origin, can I claim “Native American” rights? If Ward Churchill can, why can’t I?

Will I be eligible for an “indigenous peoples” tag?

Can I start my own casino? What about my own State Dept.?

The possibilities arising from this new bit of UN bureaucracy truly boggle the mind.

Hmm. Since I was born and raised in the United States, I am indigenous to the United States. This makes me an indigenous person. I see that I now have extra rights, including the right to have "my own" separate institutions which exclude those people who aren't indigenous - which by my reckoning applies to all recent immigrants to the U.S. from Mexico, Asia, etc. (for example).

Very fascinating implications this document would have if one took it seriously and interpreted its definitions coherently, which of course one mustn't.

>>”This marks a historic moment when U.N. member states and indigenous peoples have reconciled with their painful histories and are resolved to move forward together on the path of human rights, justice and development for all,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s spokeswoman, Michele Montas, said.<<

Since I’m sitting in a room filled with indigenous people right now, I was fascinated by this. My prediction is that this treaty will be used to harrangue Western democracies. No one will give a rat’s ass about the Mbuti people in central Africa, the !Kung in southern Africa, the Tibetans, the Hunza, or any of the hundreds of different tribal and cultural groups living squalid lives with tinpot dictators and corrupt party states. On the other hand, Americans will be called on the carpet because the HUD houses given to Native people only have one bathroom and a carport, cable isn’t provided free with WiFi access, and food stamps only allow people to eat themselves into moderate obesity. *sigh*
