As if the waters around the Antartic land mass are geting slightly warmer, but the ice itself (the land under the ice) is getting colder and thicker.
ALL of the warmer areas are closest to (or surrounded by) the sea.
This is why I don't believe the global average trend.
It's like the Dow. The trend is there, but if you dig into it, as time goes on, the constituents of the average that is trended change over time. What this means is, from day to day the trend means something, but historically you need to account for the times where the members of the average have changed to make sense of the trend.
There is no such care with the global average temperature trend as this article points out.
